Lightbulb Vote for the server name and status of new server

Instead of fixing the new server, we have just gotten a better server to help our growing demand. Over the next few days while we setup and move files to the new server, configure it, and then wait for the bloody DNS address to change, we want to take your server name ideas!

Things roll like this. Joe wants to keep it Apollo. Jon wants to change it to reflect a new "shape". I am mix.

So from the name list that we started here on the forum, vote for your preferred choice. There are no guarantee that we will do the change, but just so we have a crazy input.

the server is a 'Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 both with dual Core Processors'. 2 GB of RAM and 500GB of space (250GBx2). So keep this in mind.

Default Vote Artemis (aka Diana)

I put my vote in for Artemis. She is Apollo's twin sister, continues the A theme, is one of the Lords of Kobol and thereby a member of the Greek Pantheon, and often prayed to by Starbuck.

Only downside to Artemis is her name is a little long. But, if we use the Roman spelling of Diana that is no longer a problem.

I think Artemis covers all the angles.

Yay Artemis!

I think it should remain Apollo if it's doing Apollo's job. Are you still getting a third server (or potentially rebuilding the old Apollo) for load-balancing? That's what should be called Artemis.

Right now we are going to kill the current Apollo once the new server comes online. If load balancing comes up in the near future, we will throw up a server for a lot cheaper that can handle Load Balancing only.

I voted for Adama.

It has more to do with Adama being the wise one in the original series.

Just an update on the server. It's currently being installed and configured by the host.

Once we get access to it it should take a matter of hours to transfer everything over and set it up so that there is no interruption in service including the database usage. Since database server is not changing IPs you should not see any difference during DNS changes. We have to move on this pretty quick to cancel this server so the only interruption you might see is a little down time while the DNS for the URLs to change, but again, that should be very small and quick.

I guess they didn't need to call me to verify anything after all.

Anyway, hopefully the new server will be available sometime today (at least on our end).

I vote for Apollo. I know Jonathan's desires Artemis, but, it's not so much a rebirth, as it is the fact that the new Apollo is being resurrected by the Beings of Light (c.f. "War of the Gods, Part II").

You can surmise who the Beings of Light are.

I think the question shouldn't be what name do we want. I think it should be do we need a new name? If we answer yes to that the obvious and best choice is Artemis (or Diana for brevity). If we answer no then it is obvious to remain with Apollo.

I'm not advocating to change the name but if we are changing the name I am strongly cajoling, bribing, and strong-arming everyone to agree on Artemis. On the issue of the necessity of a name change I'm on the fence with a picket wedged firmly up my backside (OW!).

One could, however, argue that the Apollo had the problems it did because of bad mojo (karma, fate, feng shui, etc) and some of that could be tied into its name. If we wanted to avoid that a name change could be beneficial (couldn't hurt).

You should call it Gizka, or perhaps Bambo?

Is there life after death? Life after the death of your best friends and family? Life after the death of the military? People who were supposed to protect you? Is there life after death on the Colonies? YOU are about to find out...

I agree. It isn't my line of thought but one could argue that. Their success with that method is another issue entirely.

I'm interested to see more voting on the name.

Since you asked for suggestions for a new name, how about Aurora? That is the little figurehead that Starbuck gave to Adm. Adama for his always-getting-wrecked model ship. Which also got fixed again and again. Or resurrected. Just like the server - being born again, same spirit, but in a new body.
