I have recently come across an ancient Kobol sacred text describing in the ancient language, the delivery of the scientific principles of FTL to the children of Kobol. The text seems to be the source of all modern colonial FTL technology. Many colonial manuals and technical papers describing the operating principles and design considerations of FTL drives quote directly from this ancient text.

Whether the technology was ascribed to the gods or if the gods do exist and delivered the technology, I can not say.

Either way, the text is titled in the ancient language "Zeus reaches his hand to the stars"

This sacred text describes genetic instructions for ribosomaly translated proteins which are integrated on a molecular level with the mechanisms of a working FTL drive. It further describes the physics of this bio-mechanical device. The text actually provides the mRNA sequence for all six of the FTL proteins and macro-molecular machines.

Since all of the technical information regarding FTL travel is already available in Galactica's technical library and in the libraries aboard several of the other ships in the fleet, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in reading the translation of this ancient version of the tech manuals. A knowledge of sub-atomic particle physics and genetic central dogma, promotion, transcription, and RNA translation to protein would be required to make technical sense of the details. But the concepts are clearly outlined in understandable language and the text reveals many of the intricacies of a technologically advanced culture which maintains a strong poly-theistic religion.

If people post to say they are interested, I will spend the two weeks or so required to translate this text. And post it when the translation is complete.

To translate the text? Where did you find this text and what language is it in?

Interesting. Yes, and what language is it in?

The 12 colonies have maintained a common language due to close relations provided by interstellar travel and commerce. But the ancient dialect, from before the time the thirteenth tribe even left Kobol must have bean significantly different.

It was this time when this text was written. It was the star travel explained in this text that made leaving Kobol possible for the thirteenth tribe. I found the text in the cargo hold of the Zephyr. It was supposed to be delivered to a museum on Virgon.

(out of character, I have a technical understanding of both molecular biology and theoretical physics. If there is interest, I want to try my hand at filling in the gaps in a technical explanation of FTL consistent with what we've seen in the series so far. The technology shows that biological intermingling with mechanics started long ago.

Translating the text is of course just another way of saying, translating my own technical notes into an entertaining and informative dossier on FTL.)

Hey, if you want to take a shot at telling us, go right ahead. I'm always willing to read new ideas.

Indeed, I'd like to see some ideas about FTL, even if it may be above my head.

My first guess would be here:

And I'm hoping not from here:

There is no doubt in my mind that you have the answers......I was just having a bit of fun.

2 weeks ?! That's a bit of a cliffhanger...
