I swear by the golden age of the Simpsons (roughly seasons 3 through 5, give or take), but for my money, Futurama is the superior show.
I'm a huge fan of continuity. Just from that Futurama wins out over the Simpsons. The continuity of Futurama is minimal, but those character arcs help endear me to the show in a way the ironic-reset-button approach the Simpsons takes never could. The characters on the Simpsons are hilarious, but they never touched me like Fry or Leela.
Also, in my opinion, Futurama blended humor and pathos better than anything I've ever seen. Episodes like Luck of the Fryrish or Jurassic Bark are hilarious, but can suddenly and seamlessly switch gears and become tear jerkers, and then switch back.
Anyway, are there any other Futurama fans among the Galacticated? Anyone else super excited about the show's glorious return in DVD movie form?

Yeah, I totally agree.
Plus, nobody on the Simpsons makes me horny :D
Although watching Fry chasing after Leela for so long eventually gets kinda painful...I mean you just have to feel bad for him, animated or not. In fact, Leela almost starts to look a little cruel, I mean come on, at least give the guy a CHANCE.
Oh and the Professor Farnsworth character is simply hilarious in a way that none of the Simpsons characters ever will be. I think the Simpsons is funny only when the writers cook up something funny to happen. Just put enough Futurama characters in a room and it's worth a chuckle.

DVD rental things are rubbish for TV series because theres about 4 discs in each season x 4 seasons = 16 discs in total. You can only get about 1 possibly 2 discs a week to give time to watch it, send it back and get another one etc. That gives 8 weeks (2 months) to watch them all. And thats only IF they have the discs in stock when you want them and IF they send them to you in the right order. Say 3 months to be sure of getting them all at LoveFilm would cost £30 ($60) I can get them all from ebay for about £60 and i'd rather do that so i can keep them and watch them over.

Netflix costs like $10 a month, you get 3 or 4 discs at any one time, and the total turnaround time for sending a disc in and getting a new one is like two days. By the time you're finished watching one, you've already got the next one, unless you just spend all day watching three discs worth of TV. Including the commentaries, which I always watch.

Oh I love Futurama too...
There's something about Zap Brannigan that makes me laugh so hard. Think it's how accurately they've modelled him on the 'Shat.
Dr Zoidberg is a genious character and Bender... well, what can I say lol.
At the time it was definately my fave animated show, but gotta say, it's been surpassed, first by Family Guy then by American Dad.

Ugh, I can't say I like Family Guy or American Dad at all. I loved Family Guy before. But when it came back, the quality didn't seem to be there anymore, and the old stuff doesn't hold up anymore. And American Dad never did anything for me.
I'll admit, I haven't seen either since I gave up on them, so it's possible the quality improved, but what I saw did not encourage future viewings.

That's because William Shatner is his own caricature!
Futurama is a great show; the greatest episodes of the series are the anthology ones, in addition to whenever a Star Trek character shows up.
"Where No Fan Has Gone Before" is definitely worth seeing, and definitely a classic in its own right.
I do find American Dad to be funnier than Family Guy; I still like both, but I watch them on DVD, since I don't care to work my schedule around television. (And I don't have TIVO.)
The problem with both McFarlane series, however, is that they try to be as in-your-face obscene or over-the-top as possible. There's such a thing as trying to hard...

American Dad just seems lame to me, I dunno why. Just doesn't click or something.

There's such a thing as trying to hard...I don't think any mainstream cartoon in existence even compares to South Park in that regard (stupid ass Cartoon Network Adult Swim cartoons notwithstanding). I think South Park has altered my threshold to the point that nothing on Family Guy/Adult Swim even registers as obscene or over the top.

This last year, me and some friends, mainly the geeky ones who I watch BSG with, were watching Where No Fan Has Gone Before. Another friend stopped by my room. He wasn't interested in watching anything, so he decided to leave. He quickly poked his head back into the room one more to say, "I just wanted to point out, you all are sitting in the dark on a Saturday night, watching a cartoon about Star Trek!" He was right, and there was a swelling of pride for just how amazing geeks we were.
