"British science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke has died in his adopted home of Sri Lanka at the age of 90."

Just offering my condolences and thanking him for his service to the genre of science fiction. Of all things he said he wanted to be remembered for he said mostly he wanted to be remembered as a writer, and he will be.

My first encounter with his work, like most peoples was through 2001: A Space Odyssey, the novel, then the equally classic film.
My favourites of his work though are Rendezvous with Rama and Songs of a Distant Earth.

Anyone else got any favourites or anything else to say about Arthur C. Clarke?

Oddly, my first exposure to Arthur C. Clarke was some television show he created...I think it was called "Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World".

Here's the OP of the thread I posted on RDnet:

"Yes, Arthur C. Clarke was old as fuck, but I feel crushed all the same. I feel like this man was the greatest visionary to show us that science fiction isn't just idle fantasy, it's a glimpse into any number of infinite possible futures that we CAN make real if we apply ourselves to it. The kind of thinking that Arthur C. Clarke promoted and spread about the world is exactly what leads us to do amazing things make lasting achievements as a race.

The world is that much the poorer without him."
