I read the thread title in the board listing and thought to myself "hmm, interesting to see a thread on least favorite cartoons." I clicked and began to read the thread and was astonished to see great animated series and anime listed. Only then did I realize that I originally misread the title.

I feel the need to add two '80s American animated series to the list. The first is Transformers. The disregard of quality, continuity, and detail is astounding. Yet, when playing the Transformers Drinking Game (Only if you are of legal drinking age in your place of residence) the series becomes infinitely superior to anything else from that time period on television.

The second is the Smurfs. The random insertion of the word "smurf" to replace any other word makes for an occasionally vague and always hilarious television show. Often the turn of phrase, or turn of smurf if you will, leads to a connotation completely inappropriate for its child viewing audience. Add to that the frightening nature of Papa Smurf, the implied homosexuality, and the in your face Smurfs are Good and Gargamel is Bad good vs. evil fight and you have a hit show. Did I fail to mention that nowhere else on television will you find a main character who wishes to masticate the other main characters?

As an unknown Smurf says in season 1, "I smurfed her first!" Need I say more?

Haha yeah. Oh smurf, I completely smurfing forgot about that show. Oh I love the old cartoons though, their inappropriateness masked behind the children's language was such art. I go back and watch some of those shows and realize what they were really saying, and it's so funny.

Just to add another smurf quote:

Papa Smurf (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0582106/): Nature Smurf, this time your love of animals has gone too far.
Natural 'Nat' Smurf (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0012121/): I can't help it, Papa Smurf.

It's the smurf in smurf too. Oh I smurf to smurf every smurf when it is very smurfy. But, sometimes the smurf is too smurf unless the smurfy smurf has been a smurf smurf smurf smurf.

I can see that getting old real fast and yet quite humorous to boot.

Futurama
South Park

Also, I think Ren & Stimpy deserves an honorable mention. If nothing else, just for the fake ads that Kricfalusi inserted into the show when the FCC wouldn't let him have real ads in the show...It's Log, it's Log, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood! It's Log, it's Log, it's better than bad; it's good!

Grave of the Fireflies was next to End of Evangelion the hardest movie for me to watch. I love it but it's so sad. Mulan is one of Disney's best movies :D and Spirited Away is just magical and a great movie :)

I have great difficulty watching 'Grave of the Fireflies' too. I bought it 3 years ago and I have only been able to watch it the once. It is beautifully animated, but far too depressing.....
