Have any of you heard about the book that came out last month called "Battlestar Galactica and Philosophy: Knowledge Here Begins Out There" by Jason T. Eberl? It sounds like a really interesting read!

Didn't even know about it until I saw this thread. If someone does have it or know of a review please post it.

If I have an opportunity, I'll see about getting it. I own several SF and philosophy books, particularly related to the Matrix movies, and it's fun to delve into them--provided there is really something gleaned from the writing and writers themselves, and not the fans.
In other words, if it's fanwank, you'll know from me first.

I'm in the middle of reading it at the moment, and it is actually pretty good!! Usually these type of things are rushed out and there hasnt been much care taken in the editing or research on core content.
Of course any book with the word philosophy in the title, will usually have people running miles, but it is well researched, the language is simple and it gives some great insights to the issues of the show and how they relate in the grand scheme of things. It is also, dare say it, educational, though what would you expect from an academic publisher!!
I would highly recommend it, there are some really good angles explored that quite frankly I would not have thought about in a million years. Its about time there was a half decent BSG book out there!!!

I just picked it up.
The book is compiled by the same editor as two "Matrix philosophy" books.
I've only scanned the thing and shall now declare it a MUST READ. For people who like the deepness of the show (as I equally do with The Matrix), this has wonderfully deep essays on Cylon and human nature, researched well and with great conclusions, speculation and citations. And it's current to season 3 (not "Razor", but that's OK). Read this thing and you'll get a big jump on the way the show ends--and began.
(Note: The book discusses, for the most part, only the Re-imagined Series.)

Amy Kind wrote Chapter 6, "I'm Sharon, But I'm A Different Sharon": The Identity of Cylons.
She's interviewed at C-Realm Podcast: Episode 81 Imaginal Indentity (http://c-realmpodcast.podomatic.com/entry/2008-03-12T20_20_46-07_00) It's a phone interview about half an hour in length.
The article and the interview discuss the distinctions between psychological, physical, numerical and qualititive notions of identity and how these relate to resurrecting Cylons, particularly the curious case of Boomer and Athena. As well as the final four of five, who'll be asking themselves next season, "Who am I? What am I?"
A more ordered thoughtful analysis that delves into the same areas as fanwank discussions collectively known as "Did Athena steal Boomer's life?"
