As some of you might know already, my HDD is starting to die on me. (Yeah, I ran the Apple Hardware Diags, after my computer refuses to boot normally. It spits back the 2STF/8/3 error.) Of course, I can't boot into the GUI, but I can get to the command prompt, and my HDD volume is mounted as read only.
I'm looking into using Disk Warrior, but it's got a $100 price tag on it, so I was wondering what people thought about the product, or if there's another alternative I should look into.
Thanks in advance!

It's a pretty good program, and I'd say it's worth the price tag.
Also, Spence is NOT the only Apple geek around. Though, he is the only professional Apple geek around. :P

LOL. Yeah, I just got an e-mail from Spence. He told me it's definitely worth having.
I was able to grab all of my files from the HDD using an Ubnutu live PPC CD and an external HDD. So I'm good on that front, in the event the drive gets FUBARed.
I hope that nothing is physically wrong with the drive, tho... But seeing as I was able to grab all of my info, I feel better now than I did last night.

I got Disk Warrior yesterday. Ran it and discovered that there is a physical problem with the hard drive after all.
Although I kinda figured as such, it was able to grab my data too; from what I've read, it's also a very good maintenance tool, and effective as a preventative measure to check HDD health.
So I've ordered a new internal hard drive, which I'll install myself, as well as a 3.5 mm hard drive to put into an external enclosure so I can keep constant backups of my HDD.

Well hey, at least you have all the data!

Good to hear. DiskWarrior paid for itself then, I take it?
