Collectors of comics, anyone?
Lately, I've really been into The Goon (http://www.thegoon.com/) and I started up on reading Lobster Johnson and B.P.R.D. (loving it so far).

Hmmmm my favorite comic book? "Thorgal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorgal)" :D In my opinion, a masterpiece. Got all the parts standing on my shelf.
Also, X-men (the only American comic heroes I like), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Eden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden:_It%27s_an_Endless_World%21) and a lot more :)

I read limited run comics, such as Watchmen and V for Vendetta.
Alan Moore is a great author.

Anyone a fan of either Hellboy or B.P.R.D. comics (or related)? I just finished the first two issues of B.P.R.D.: 1946 which I really quite liked.
I think I'll stop by the comic book store again later to-day for the first issue of Abe Sapien.

I have to take exception to some of the titles listed in this thread being described as comics. Comics are great things to read but some of the items listed here are not comics. Technically speaking the ones in question, V for Vendetta as an example, are graphic novels.
There is a difference but the most common being that graphic novels are accepted as literature and comics are not. I hate that distinction, I read comics too y'know, but sadly it exists.
As for things I like to read I'm an avid reader of comics. I spend most of my time reading graphic novels and own over 100. You can see my titles at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/jreinhart for those who are interested.
Of you who read graphic novels do you prefer American titles or other nations (manga for example)?

From American comics I like only X-Men. I really don't like all those superheroes thing. And what I don't like in American comics is the length. How can you read something that has 24 pages?
I prefer manga like Death Note, Battle Royale, Nana, Claymore, Evangelion and many more. As I mentioned above Thorgal, which is one of the best comics I've read in my life. Also, the comic thanks to whom I learnt how to read. Kajko i Kokosz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kajko_i_Kokosz) :D

Yeh Comics!
Used to be the most expensive hobby I had. Sadly I had to stop.
Watchmen originally came out as individual comics before being compiled.
I only have the compilation which is termed the graphic novel.
X-men was great until they split the title into many X-titles, ok it was a money grabbing scheme but it made continuity a big problem.
I managed to get the Sword of Azreal before they decided to make him the replacement for Batman. It is one of my collectors items.
I mormally buy the issues where the writer and penciler combo really hit the mark. EG: Chris Clarement & Jim Lee , Alan Moore & Brian Bolland

I see Deathnote has been mentioned. What do you guys think of its ending? Worth the wait or anticlimactic?
I realize this is a slight foray into 18+ so I will avoid details, and ask you to do the same, but how many of you have read Lost Girls? I know some of you have mentioned Watchmen and V for Vendetta. Moore's foray into Lost Girls caused a lot of controversy and many book outlets refused to carry the title.

Nana is certainly popular with the girls. I've flipped through and it seems decent. The reviews I've read have been really good too. Maybe when I'm done with all my other graphic novels I'll give it a try.
I just finished all of Bleach and I'm working on catching up with FMA. I read a bunch and then proceeded to read other things resulting in my losing track of how far I got. There were some good reviews in Booklist last month to check out. I'm not a DC fan but the Batman GN sounds quite interesting.

I just spent 118PLN (around $50) for 6 volumes of Neon Genesis Evangelion and 2 volumes of Akira but now I've both titles completed :D

Haha a friend of mine is trying to get all of Akira. He has all of the volumes except for 3, which he can't find anywhere. Apparently (I haven't read it, only watched it once) half of the important stuff happens in 3? lol

I love Akira's manga but hated the anime. I've been worried it is just me but I have spoken to others who feel the same way. Guess there's a bunch of us weirdos.
I see Akira all over the place here in the northeast. Has your friend checked a Barnes & Nobles, Waldenbooks, or even Amazon? I know I've seen them.

Amazon I don't know, but I know he has been to every bookstore in the area haha. He'll find it eventually I'm sure. I just find it amusing that he can't find the one volume that has a lot of the action in it. I kinda almost don't want him to find it, just because it amuses me that much. =P

I'm collecting manga "Eden - It's an Endless World". All volumes are available in Poland except volume 2 because the publishing house printed it only once and never reprinted it again. Of course I have all 13 volumes except this one :D

As for Daniel Clowes: I read Ghost World a few years ago, shortly after the movie came out. And I think that was actually the first comic I read (well, except childhood stuff like Disney comics but I'm not sure those actually count). Not that I haven't read many comics since but it definitely changed my opinion on the genre.
Right now I'm planning to read Watchmen soon and after that From Hell.

You have no idea how much it pleases me for someone else to be amused by another's pain.
BTW, here's links to Vol. 3 of Akira. I hope your buddy has saved up a lot of cash. Vol. 3 is not cheap to purchase. I know I've seen it in stores for less but according to the websites it is hard to find and expensive. Beats me.

Yeah... I fully admit I have a major problem, I fully enjoy people's pain. Especially when they do it to themselves. It's just so funny sometimes. I'll pass it on to my friend, thanks.

Has anyone read the manhwa (Korean manga) XS Hybrid by Ji-Jyoung Song? I grabbed volumes 1 and 2 from work after reading a good review in Publisher's Weekly on the 2nd volume.
But, I found the first volume to be disjointing for me and slightly confusing. It is probably just me. However, I chose to not read the second volume after that experience. Can someone clue me in to what I missed?

I just finished a great deadpan GN from Fantagraphics titled I Killed Adolf Hitler by Jason (no last name given). It uses the system, from Maus, of transposing animals to stand in for people.
Cats, Birds, etc. Quite interesting and sci-fi oriented too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/1560978287 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/9781560978893)will tell you if you can get it near you. Try your local library FIRST. Save some of your money and help your library out by using their stuff. They'll appreciate it.
If they don't carry the title ask them to purchase it if money exists. It is an award winner and the author/illustrator is a gem from Norway.

Is anyone reading the new volume of The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman? I just got mine and haven't started yet but hope to soon. Am looking for first impressions.

I've been reading Walking Dead for years now. Are you just reading the trades as they come out, or reading new issues? I don't wanna blow it for you when discussing it...
If you're looking for zombie stuff, Avatar Press puts out a lot of Night Of The Living Dead/Plague Of The Living Dead stuff, and for tongue-in-cheek humor see IDW's Everybody's Dead miniseries as well as Moonstone Comic's Zombie-Proof three-issue miniseries.

I used to pick up comics, about $100 worth every month, but stopped that ages ago. Now I only buy graphic novels. Walking Dead is one of the core series in my collection. I read volume 8, Made to Suffer, on July 4th (gotta love LibraryThing for keeping track of that kind of stuff).
Thought it was good but not as good, at the start, as some of the others. The ending was interesting. Overall I love the series but think the very beginning and then late middle volumes are the strongest.
