View Full Version : What if Caprica doesn't get picked up for a second season?

It seems like there's doubt (despite what Syfy said (http://www.airlockalpha.com/node/7148)) about renewal for the show or at least based on what Esai Morales said:
We don't know when we're going to get picked up.Source: io9 (http://io9.com/5495603/capricas-esai-morales-we-dont-know-when-were-going-to-get-picked-up)

If the show does get canceled which doesn't really seem likely in my opinion, should a campaign to save the show?*

*When has that actually worked by-the-way? I can think of the letter campaign to save the original Star Trek for a third season but not of any successful ones.

All campaigns are resolutely ignored - why should they capitulate to a few thousand fans when millions stopped watching?

I don't think it'll be cancelled, though so...

If it is Cancelled. RDM will create another show that is the First Cylon war...

Hasn't Syfy management said that they're fully supportive of the show?

Yes.

Hasn't Syfy management said that they're fully supportive of the show?

And I read a news story once where a college claimed they were behind their football coach 100%.

He was canned the next week.

Let's hope this isn't similar.

I believe Arrested Development was saved for it's final season by fans.

If ever it comes to that, that being a campaign by the fans to save the show, sign me up no matter how futile it may be. I was skeptical about Caprica when the pilot episode came out, but now, I just find myself waiting for the episodes of this series to roll in, week after week. I didn't even realize we were at the season finale already.

We are really only at a mid season break. I don't know why it keeps getting called the "season finale." Unless they plan to only have 9 episodes in the season. Which is strange because they got signed for The Pilot plus 16 more episodes.

It's nothing new when it comes to Syfy's marketing. They heavily promoted BSG season four as "The FINAL Season"...before splitting it in half and waiting a year to air the final ten episodes (essentially splitting it into two seasons).

Yeah but we knew that they were splitting it in half. It was no revelation that there was a second half they still had to show. I haven't heard a blessed thing about the second half of season one of Caprica yet.

We didn't think the split was going to be a yearlong one, though.

ShadowEnigma

Well yes, but we knew it was going to be there. The length of the split was always longer than anticipated it seemed. It'd be nice if they at least suggested that they'll be finishing the season at some point in oh I don't know, the next few years. Don't want to hold them to anything shorter than that.

Actually, I remember back in January, 2008 when the season-split announcement was first made, and everyone across fandom was pretty freaking shocked by the thought of putting almost an entire year between one half of the season and the other half.

Even Jamie Bamber was rather aghast over it, having been led to believe by the (then-) Sci-Fi Channel brass that the final season was either going to be broadcast non-stop, or else with a very, very small break (as in, 2-3 months) between season-halves.

Syfy's never yet met a series they couldn't kill momentum on by stalling for 10 months in the middle of a season.

I semi-agree. It had good points and bad points but it definitely ended mid-season on a bad point.

FWIW I was scanning some entertainment rag in a waiting room last week, caprica made it onto some pundit's top 10 must-watch list...not like that means diddly when it comes to opinion, but it shows the publicity machine is working.

Anybody who has an inkling of how the North American entertainment industry works knows that it's all about public exposure, good or bad.

Oh no doubt it's working the publicity angle. Sci-fi is coming more into the mainstream in general (what with V, Fringe, Caprica, Lost, etc).

This bodes extremely well:

Caprica Sets New Viewship Record with 1.1 Million (18-49); 1.8 Million Total.

"Syfy boasts that the mid-season finale March 26 finished with 1.7 million total viewers, including a series record 1.1 million adults 18 to 49. The numbers include not just live data, but also timeshifted viewing of up to seven days."This could mean renewal. The series has a lot of places yet to go.

If I recall, those numbers are slightly superior to what even BSG itself was pulling down towards the end of its run (not counting the series finale).

Actually FAMILY GUY was saved by a combo of DVD sales and letter writing. I am not sure if this fits, but THE BIONIC WOMAN (the good one...yeah I said it) was rescued by another network. I think we fans need to do our part and lend our dvds to our friends who liked LOST, and then the network needs to move the show out of the FRIDAY time slot...jeez

So was Stargate, no?

Indeed, and Enterprise got an extra season as well. :D
