Anyone have any favourite movies that's at the top of their list?
Usually, for me, the top three tends to be "The American Astronaut", "Brazil" and "Blade Runner" but I have several favourites that should either be included or noted.

The Departed
Star Wars: A New Hope & Empire Strike Back (I don't like the other four, although Revenge of the Sith is all right)

Never opened your briefcase? I doubt they'd include the fallout radiation when they sent it back from the future.

Favourite films?? okay in no particular order, The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars, Batman Begins, Cannibal The Musical (seriously!!), Alien, The Matrix, Spirited Away, The Life of Brian, South Park - Bigger Longer and Uncut, Pans Labyrinth, 2001, and I am probably going to get mauled for this one.... Star Trek the Motion Picture ....oh, and Lars von Trier's ' The Idiots' -fantastic!!!
by the way, how rubbish was The Golden Compass?? Its one of my all time favourite books, what a hatchet job!!!

Golden Compass wasn't too bad. I talked to a friend about it who actually read the books (I haven't) and he said that the movie didn't stray too far.

Hi, ShadowEnigma, thats true, it didn't, but it was still a jumbled mess. The screen play was all over the place. I was at a loss to see how anybody who hasnt read the books could actually follow what was going on. I struggled to follow it and i have read it 5 times!!

I was able to follow it pretty well. My friend had told me a little about it, about the animal spirits and such, but overall I was able to follow it pretty easily.

I suppose my expectations weren't met, also it cloaked over the (anti organised)religious aspect of the novels, which is the heart of the story. Without that , the film was completely pointless for me. The story is one which has you question (not unlike BSG!!) a lot of philosophical religious viewpoints.
ShadowEnigma
March 8th, 2008, 02:19 PM
Well it was only supposed to cover the first novel, correct? Maybe when they do the second and third movies (I think I heard they are doing the whole trilogy?) they will delve more into the philosophical questions.

Hi, apparently, because of the American market they cant go into the religious aspect. i doubt now that they will make the remaining 2 novels into movies as the film flopped big time!! it also took NewLine cinemas down, they no longer exist, what on earth did they do with the money they made from LOTR??
