Well, this is what happens when you make crappy games:

Do you think we'll ever get a proper game?

No. That would defy some set of unwritten laws of producing quality games on quality television or some such.

Seriously though, the only really viable BSG game would be a space combat simulator. A real one.

Of course, as we all know, the best BSG has to offer is not the Viper space battle stuff but the characters and the story. It's hard to put that into a good quality game.

Hm.

I don't know, you could combine space combat with a quality FPS...like first you shoot your way through a swarm of Cylon raiders to escort a Raptor onto a planet and then the Raptor unloads Marines and you play as a Marine making your way through a Cylon installation. Then you get to command a Battlestar in a pitched battle against a pair of base stars...

There might even be more elements you could come up with, the key would be to touch on as many different styles of action as you can.

Interesting. I recentlly purchased the Battlestar Galactica game for my PC. I found it entertaining enough, but nowhere what it should have been, in my opinion.

I wish they would come out with a Battlestar Galactica game similar to Star Trek Armada, but taking place during the First Cylon War. A game where one could command various Battlestars and engage Cylon Baseships and outposts throughout several campaigns. Although, a decent Viper and Raptor combat simulator would be great.

As I see it there are only two ways to make a BGS game, a flight sim, in the vign of Tie fighter or Wing Commander, which is unlikly because the space sim seems to be a dead style.

Or a good old RTS, maybe set during the first war so that you can mount fleets of Battlestars aginst tons of basestars.

there is a flight sim out -- the wiki calls it fan fiction, and the game (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Beyond_the_Red_Line) is a total conversion of the old game FreeSpace 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freespace_2).

I play it on my Linux box, for the most part, and even though it's only a demo at this point, it's a lot of fun. It's available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The main forum is here (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=36).

You don't need the original FreeSpace2 game to play it (of course, if you do have it, you get two games for the price of one -- which may even be free). The original game was open-sourced a few years ago, and the community has released upgrades to the original game engine that far surpass its original limitations. Moreover the original game was released under a funny license that enabled people to freely give it away to friends.

If you decide to give the game a shot, be warned that you should be able to get the game for free! It's designed solely as a labour of love and the developers have expressly stated that they will not charge for it ever. There is a learning curve with the quasi-Newtonian physics model (glide mode is possible, for example).

The developers are a great bunch too, feel free to head over to the forum for instructions on downloading and installing the game. Please take the time to read these carefully as you may end up saving plenty of time in the long run.

Thanks!

I recently read or heard an interview with Moore asking him about video games attached to teh show. Essentially when they do that they never ask him for his input on it. I would say this is the reason for the obvious disconnect.

I think a good basis for a game would be the Kobol storyline. You start out on the raprot with the landing party, crash land & you have to find a safe place to take care of the crew that are wounded. You then have to take on the cylons to make the area safe to land for a rescue party. You then are Starbuck on Earth meeting up with Helo, discovering Sharon is a cylon & trying to retrieve the arrow of Apollo. Jump back to Kobol with the arrow cue the final part of the story, you are with Roslin trying to find your way to the tomb & the direction to earth.
