View Full Version : I Wish We'd Seen More of Alastair Thorne!

Remember Season 2? We all sorts of Pegasus crewmen who swore that they owed their lives to Thorne...he was spoken of with reverence, as a courageous soldier. In retrospect, I really wish we'd seen him, even just in the background, actually kicking ass and taking names. Shoving one boot up a Cylon's ass while using the other to drag himself and a wounded crewman to safety.
Instead, all we EVER have seen of him is when he's going to town on Cylon prisoners, leaving him a very transparent, 2-dimensional character. I feel like we missed out...Razor was about telling Pegasus's story, and I think Thorne was (should have been?) part of that story.
I have a sad suspicion that it may have been a political decision...you just can't allow a "rapist" to do anything good onscreen because once you commit violence against "women", that entirely defines you and there's nothing more to you as a person *sigh*

Yeah, it's one of those things that I commented on in my review.
For many of the reasons you touched upon, I wanted more Thorne, dammit.

Didn't Moore say there was a scheduling conflict with the actor? Or was that another character?

You're probably referring to the actor who portrayed Pegasus' CAG, Cole Taylor. There was a scheduling conflict which is why his appearance was cut short in "Resurrection Ship".

I think he's dead ;x

He wasn't dead when they were getting attacked at the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards or mounting the assault on the staging area, which is when I really would have liked to see him.

Yeah, I kinda wanted to see Thorne in action 'cause, though he's a bastard, he seemed to be hell of a soldier. I thought, he will be shown as a strong leader who like Cain can show no fear and make his own crew fight even if they were scared and disorientated.

Yeah I wanted to see more of him too. Though the movie was already compressed enough as it is. I remember from somewhere that Brad said that they would have liked to have fit more of him in, but it was a low priority and they didn't have the room. They assumed that seeing Gina bruised and bloodied was enough. It still doesn't explain how he helped save the lives of over 50 people. I haven't gotten out to the store yet to pick up my copy, i'll do that tomorrow.
On a completely unrelated note, it just occured to me that when they created the Razor DVD trailer, they hadn't completed all the special effects. For example, the rear of the Pegasus is this boring, gray hexagon. It's weird looking.

Meh, they should have just made it longer. Come on, what else did SciFi desperately have to fit into the programming schedule? Another episode of WCW?

I remember when they first started premiering wrestling on the Sci-Fi channel - at first I thought that the network had either gotten moved or taken off the air, then I saw the logo at the bottom of the screen, and my impression of Sci-Fi was forever tainted.
"But OrionFour, that doesn't make any sense, what does wrestling have to do with science fiction?"
Absolutely nothing. It's a cheap move that any network is capable of making when their overall ratings get too low. Just give me some BSG, some Stargate and a bunch of Star Trek reruns and I'll be happy. No need to pollute the air waves with wrestling and the occasional low-budget crappy "large random animal kills everybody" knock-off movie starring Neal McDonough as the rogue manly man with a fancy hat.

my impression of Sci-Fi was forever tainted. My thoughts exactly! :p
Just give me some BSG, some Stargate and a bunch of Star Trek reruns and I'll be happy.Hell, there are all sorts of shows they could be playing. What about Red Dwarf? Or Lost in Space? Or Lexx again? It's not like there's a lack of material.

Scifi will go down in history as the world's most prolific creator of those travesties...

Yeah, they have a bunch of shows. Old, new, and in between. Far better than that ECW felgercarb.

Well what REALLY worries me is that if they play completely unrelated diarrhea like ECW, that could open the floodgates to ANYTHING from soap operas to that guy who shows you how to paint happy bushes.

The next thing you know it's going to be reality tv shows and reruns of TRL with Carson Daly. It just gets me that there are so many great things out there that they could choose to air, but they don't, for God knows what reason. Hell, NBC owns the original Star Trek, I don't see why they don't run second-runs of the remastered first season. That's free. And Paramount distributes the other series for pennies nowadays. All those shows we've mentioned are great shows. A great concept for a channel squandered. Shame.

And what about foreign shows? I think they should play the Lars von Trier's The Kingdom...Netflix doesn't seem to have it on DVD.

Geez -- they should definitely play Charlie Jade over there. For any number of reasons, RDM fans will love it.
