View Full Version : Humanoid Cylons: What to Wear?

Have you ever noticed that the humanoid Cylons that aren't hiding among the Colonials always seem to be dressed rather haphazardly? I mean, around the Colonials they dress to fit into whatever role they're taking on, but among themselves, they don't really seem to have any roles. And so they never seem to know what to wear. So you get a Six participating in a boarding action on an enemy Colonial battlestar, wearing a white suit and stiletto heels. I don't know about you, but if I were trying to get onboard an enemy military vessel where people might try to shoot me, I'd probably leave my heels at home and wear the boots. In fact, Sixes tend to wear that outfit in all sorts of weird places, like hiking in the woods. I recognize the importance of reusing costuming, but it kind of results in that weird effect you get when misguided mothers dress their twins (triplets, quadruplets) in matching clothes. Not something you usually see adults do willingly of their own accord.

The Cylons get their fashion sense from Joan Rivers.

Let's hope they don't use botox like Joan Rivers :P

See Troop Leader Six (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Six#Caprican_Troop_Leaders) Either one, several, or a group of Sixes that act as a sort of sergeant for a Centurion squad. The white trenchcoat is her uniform during much of season one. It's a visual cue signifying the Pegasus boarding is happening at about the same time Galactica is fleeing its own Cylon pursuers elsewhere in the episode "33."

Um...I think you're missing the point. I recognize that the troop leaders all wear that, what I'm saying is that it doesn't make any sense.

"Chaaaarge! Oh crap, my heel broke off...I'm gonna have to go back for new shoes, this will will have to wait."

"Alright, first we'll sneak up on them from behind." *Centurion voice* "They saw you ten minutes ago from across the valley because you're wearing a bright white coat in the middle of a forest, Imperious leader."

Ah. Why did it take the British Army 200 years to adopt terrain blending camouflage instead of bullseye red? Less than optimal battlewear may be another angle used to show humanoid Cylons are overconfident.

Because the rules of engagement changed & they didn't adapt.

That's actually an excellent point.

I mean I would really like to see Number Six in military uniform instead of this white coat and heels. I mean, not only the heels break but imagine walking down the forset with them on your feet. No wonder they're so easy to kill, they just simply can't run. Just imagine attack of 6s, without centurions, and wearing the clothes they wear. "Oh, no! My heel got stuck in the moss!" "Let's hide behind those dark, dark trees, maybe they won't see our white hair and coats!".

:D Yeah, that's pretty much what I was saying.

Although there is more to it than that.

Remember Downloaded? Even then, just hanging out on their newly conquered planet, drinking coffee and shooting the breeze, the various models are largely wearing the same outfit among each model. It's weird.

-Oh, Frak! – said Number Six, tossing the moss out of her high heeled shoes. – Who had this frakking idea of giving us those clothes?
-Well, I think it was Six – answered Six.
-No frakking way – replied Six. – We’re centurion leaders! We should be wearing military clothes not this cheap imitation of “Ducce & Gibbana”. No wonder the resistance is shooting at as. We’re visible form, like, 30 frakking clicks.
-You know – said Six after a moment of silence – As for a Cylon, you swear a lot.
-Frak you, Six. Why do we have to wear the same? Did you see Caprica Six? She’s got her own style. And why? Because she nuked this frakking planet? Oh, please. I could do the same. But no, I have to wear white and fight in the forest, trying to be invisible while she’s spending some good time in some cafeteria talking with Eight and Three about how “huge” hero she is. God I hate her.
-Yeah, you’re kind of right. But hey, there are good points like… well, we still… you know… ok there are none.
-Imperious leader – said one of the centurions coming to Sixes. – We’ve noticed some people. Probably resistance. Awaiting orders.
-Kill them – answered Six. – I don’t give a frak. I don’t want to break a nail or something. And running with those heels? Impossible.
-By your command – answered the centurion and left.
-Sooo… - said Six. – If the centurions are there and we’re here maybe we could go to that abandoned TV station.
-Frak yeah! They have all episodes of Joan Rivers show. – smiled Six
-You think she’s a Cylon?
-Like from the Final Five? Frak yeah, just look at her. So old and looks so young. It can’t be what human call, botox. And I bet she survived the attack.
-Great so, 4 left. – said Six
-Frak it. C’mon let’s have some good time, we earned it.
-By your command – said Six.

:p OK this is retarded, I know.

ehhhhm... no. Early modern warfare was characterized by two main points:
1) you don't hit anybody with your musket beyond point-blank range really
2) you fight in close combat - and smoke, and dirt - and need to be able to tell friend from foe quickly and definitely. So each army developed their colour codes.

This pattern only changed when warfare was industrialized, i.e., you could not only see but also hit a "redshirt"( ;)) from a considerable distance. That is when uniform colour was changed for khaki - the first who did this were the British, in their African colonies.

Now, neither of these points is true for the Cylons. I guess that part of the reason for their confidence in smart clothing is that they don't have to worry about being hit or not. Once you know you resurrect you don't even bother for a flesh wound marring your beauty: Once you dislike your body, you get rid of it...

Remember that the humanoid Cylons command the Centurions and Raiders so they dont actually do much fighting themselves (bar one or two examples) therefore they wouldn't need much combat style clothing, I think that the troop leader Six's are mearly there to observe and oversee the Centurions and update their commands as they need to.

That still doesn't explain why anyone with an ounce of deductive reasoning would wear stiletto's in the woods!

Well it would be her appearance of course, she thought she would look fat in combats. Theres some deductive reasoning for ya :p

Simple enough. Why wear stilettos?
'Cause it's in the script!
