in Daybreak part one, has anyone else noticed the building with what looked like characters in letters that are non-roman on one of the buildings in the first look at caprica just as the ep is starting?

If so further evidence of our Earth?

O.o

um.... no,

are you on crack?

It did look a lot more like 'Earth' than I remember in the mini but I think you're looking a little hard for hints....

AFAIK, he's on the same substance I'm using. Speaking of which.

Screencap it, my man Cal.

I see what you mean - at 2:57 on the right side of the screen. They don't look like any characters I have seen - not that I am an expert or anything. ugly american more like.

Not at work and don't have decent vid editing here.

Yes, there are 3 buildings with asian-style lettering which reads downwards. One sign, blurry, has roman style lettering, reading horizontally. The street signs, never quite show, as Baltar drives down the road, are horizontal.

Shows that they really do come from Earth then? There is no way they could have developed all the alphabets of Earth unless they actually came from here?

if that was the case the fact that they speak English is a dead giveaway. Unless we have someone who can actually say 'Yes these are japanese and mean this" I'd consider them nothing more than...well background

From 2:57.

Also in this frame (not above crop) there are ships like Colonial One.

I got the impression they were trying to evoke a futuristic amalgam of say Tokyo (hence Japanese style script) with Sydney (Intersun Liners instead of the ferries).

Gives them a way to make it familiar, yet sufficiently different so that we'd believe this is how Caprica City could look, without them going all "George Lucas" on us and serving it up as Coruscant-by-Sea.

CalUK1986, interesting observation. I've mentioned elsewhere that there seems to be a change to the look to Caprica City. I think they're trying to change the look to prepare for the new series Caprica.
