All of the #6s (Head, Caprica, Gina, Godfrey, etc) :D

Honestly? Baltar

I find it fascinating to watch his line of thinking & his absolute knack for self preservation.

I also really like the progression of Starbuck as a character, not necessarily the whole "destiny" thing. She started in the mini as an obvious male character with katee & the writers trying way too hard to make her a male in a female body. Throughout the 3 seasons she's fleshed out into a believable character instead of a charicature. She has strengths & arguably fatal weaknesses. That to me, makes her more believable.

Cally, then Baltar, then Tyrol, then Adama.

I would have to go with Starbuck first off. As stated above the character has grown throughout the three seasons. I find her to be either a likeable character or not.

Second would have to be Cally, I've always admired her since the miniseries, she is another character that has grown.

I do also like Racetrack, Adama and Roslin; each have there own qualities that I admire.

Baltar and Tigh

I agree with you alpha...Baltar and Tigh are fascinating characters.

James Callis has the most expressive face Ive ever seen in an actor, and he brings a general like-ability to a unlikeable character. The scene where he's dreaming that laura is about to kiss him...the look on his face was so funny I had to keep rewinding it because I couldnt stop laughing.

Tigh, on the other hand, I always liked because he seemed so "human" with his weaknesses and strengths.
Starbuck is fantastic as well, but I have a chick crush on her so maybe Im biased :o

Baltar, Tigh and then Baltar. (really he is more than a single character)

Tough question, but the ones I like best are Gaius Baltar and Lee Adama.

One can't help but to sympathize with Gaius no matter what the circumstance is. in his mind he's been used by both Cylons and Colonials for their own gains and thus only looks out for himelf. He is a deeply flawed character which makes him all the more appealing. Although everyone looks at him as an eccentric shady selfish character, he is probably the most human of them all.

Lee is somewhat of an enigma at times. He is a competent military officer and stands ready to defend his father, his ship, crewmates and the entire fleet, but at the same time he is not afraid to risk his career in the Colonial Fleet to stand by what he believes is right even though it may conflict with popular opinion. Although he's not what I would call a quintessential hero, he's a character of deep conscience.

Tigh, because he always felt so flawed and interesting and it was genuanly fasanating to watch the train wreck that was his life. And now that we know hes a Cylon hes the most intersting charator to rewatch.

For me its Adama, the Chief, Baltar, Helo and Sharon. Adama is the last glimpse of order in that chaotic world. While the Chief is the average blue collar in a world that has gone mad. Baltar represents humanity's ego. Helo symbolizes hope and innocence. Sharon represents redemption.

Col. Tigh, hands down.
Flaws make interesting characters and he has a slew of them. He defies the stigma that SciFi shows can't have interesting, real, and deep characters. He's a battle weary vet. He's been messed with in the war, with his wife, and has lost his eye. The emotional roller coaster ride is not only believable and well acted but actually makes me like him whether it's because of pity (and I don't pity many fictional characters) or a Richard III joy in seeing a character torture himself and make mischief. Now he's a cylon! I can't wait to see how that's going to change Tigh and Hogan's brilliant protayal of him.

Seanathin
December 11th, 2007, 05:20 AM
Exactly because like after Adama got shot and Tigh nearly fraked everything up you felt both pitty for him and his inablity to hold it toghter but you also kind of hated him for the actions he took. That alone is brilliant.

starbuck purely due to her strong character and her deep personality which Katee sackhoff has always managed to convey so well :D

she is the reason i came to BSG , she is awesome through and through

i also like Tigh becuase of his straight up and down soldier like personality ...he never shows any compassion to the enemy ..hates the cylons which is becoming a rare commodity now ..what with Helo lovin a cylon now and such

That's a tough one. A very tough one. I like every last one of them, for different reasons, yes, even Helo. I guess you could say I usually like the characters I see more of myself in, or at least, the persons I would like to be more like.

Adama, because he's the man every guy wants to be like when they get to be that age.
Baltar, because I love watching his thought process unfold on screen. And because James Callis is an amazing actor.
Tigh, because I find myself quoting him all the time.
Lee, because, well I'm not really sure, I just really like that guy. At first I found him too angsty but he grew on me quickly. I think I like him because I love to watch how as he grows older and more mature, he becomes more like his father and unlike him at the same time.
Sharon, because she manages to be tactful and tactical at the same time, and because she's really really hot.
Cally, because she's gorgeous. Every time she almost dies in the series I get quite aggravated. I'm like oh no, you are not going to kill off Cally, I won't allow it.

;)

Let's count the number of times Cally's almost gotten killed shall we?

* The time that Crashdown put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her if she didn't go on a suicide mission so that his sorry ass wouldn't have to.
* The time that she was ejected from an airlock and had to spend a week in a hyperbaric chamber.
* The time that she was almost executed on New Caprica.
* The time that the Chief almost beat her to death.
* The time that Adama threatened to execute her if the Chief didn't call off his strike.

Am I missing any?

Cally does need a good slap in the face, because she was annoying in Season 3, particularly with how she acted in "The Son Also Rises", going after Athena and saying some stupid comments like "I could've kissed Nicholas for the last time", etc.

Honestly, I think that might be what frustrates me the most about Cally. She could be a truly interesting character with a unique point of view since she is not part of the command staff, she's not a pilot. She's just a "grunt" but at times they make her so damn annoying I want to smack her. She could be so much better, but so far, she's basically been window dressing and dramatic exclmation points intead of a real person.

January 4th, 2008, 10:23 PM
My favorite character is Karl "Helo" Agathorn. I suppose he is my favorite character because I actually resemble him physically which initially got my attention, but mostly because I think its interesting to see a guy who stands completely strong because of his strong sense of right and wrong. He stops at nothing when he thinks something immoral is happening.

Secondly, the scenes involving him and Sharon "Athena" Valerii are incredibly moving most of the time, and their story line literally had be captivated throughout the first 3 seasons. I got into the show after all three seasons were already over, so watching the episodes one after another really helped me get into their particular story line.

To really sum it up, I guess I just really relate with him and see a lot of myself in him, so watching his scenes gets to me. I actually relate to much to him that when I was watching the scene where Athena nearly gets raped by Thorne, the Pegasus interrogator, I got so angry I felt like I wished I could be in the show to stop it. I know, I'm weird I guess, but its hard not to get that into it when you relate to a character that much.

... Baltar and Starbuck.

Gaius Baltar's antics in the first season are absolutely amazing. It's a mixture of his expertly written & delivered lines combined with animated facial expressions that make him one of my favorite tv characters of all time. If you're looking for a classic Baltar moment check out the bathroom scene in 'Six Degrees of Separation'. I also think that on an individual character level his storyline is the most compelling. I still want to know exactly who he is and why he can interact with Head Six.

Starbuck is a kicka** female who also has her fair share of one-liners. Plus, I know that in any scene Katee Sackhoff is going to deliver some convincing stuff. And being female, how can I not love another woman who always manages to hold her own!

All of the main BSG characters are top of the line but I never saw anybody mention the one char. I find second to best in the whole show: Romo Lampkin.

I like all the characters. Most successfull shows spread the wealth in terms of character development. I find that focusing too much attention on a single character is usually a show killer. That why I like this BSG. I really can't think of a character that I like the most overall. Sure any single episode may have a favorite. I guess if I really had to pick one, it would be Helo because that character seems to have a knack for thinking outside of the box when times are tough.

For my top choice, sig says it all. Baltar has been my favourite character since season one. He's extremely intelligent, and not as entirely egomaniacal as some naysayers claim. He looks out for himself above all, to be sure, but his motives are often a lot more complex than that. Hilarious and expressive acting for a great character. We've heard in interviews that Baltar has a big part to play in the end of the final season; I can't wait to see how everything plays out.

My second favourite is Roslin. She's like a 24 president, only 10x more badass. I'm also a big fan of Admiral Adama; if Roslin is the 24 prez, Adama is Jack Bauer. It's hard not to like him; he's central to everything on the Galactica. And of course, everyone loves Starbuck.

Finally, I have to admit a weakness for Tom Zarek. Aside from the cool factor of having the original Apollo come back as a pseudo-Marxist shady revolutionary-turned-politician, he's just a really interesting character. Even more so than Baltar, he is torn between self-interest and ideals. While he's clearly no saint, he has certainly sacrificed blind ambition for what he saw as the greater good. I wish his shady connections had been less prevalent than his moments of idealism, as he seemed like a much cooler character when he was introduced in the prison riot episode, but he's still one of my top 5.

favorite CHARACTER, huh? i'm gonna have to go with saul ...

take a look at his rather painful bio, his dealing well [and not so well] with the crap thrown at him trhoughout s1 & early s2; his hell on new caprica, and oh yeah -- he's a cylon. oh, btw, he impregnated a 6, while perhaps closing his eyes and seeing his dead wife [!!]

Romo :) The guy just does it for me lol I know how that sounds but I assure you it's not in 'that' way

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

As for the main cast..... well they all are damn good and have been since the beginning it's pretty hard to pick a fav.... I'll go with Head 6

Stop digging.

Head Six delivers some excellent lines, like in the Miniseries - "and just like that! Doctor Baltar invents the amazing Cylon detector".

I know a lot of people find him annoying, but my favorite character is Lee. He seems the "most human" for some reason. My other favorite is, tada, Sam.

Ha! well, I just want them to be happy in the end, and Starbuck hasn't been doing much of a job on that department.

Happy? You don't think this show deserves a better end than "they lived happily ever after"?

I'd like to see a heroic yet fatal end to everyone's journey. I will be wholly disappointed with a Hollywood faker finale. Whether the cycle is broken or mankind begins anew I don't want a single hero to survive the final battle.

This thread is called "Who do you like best in BSG?"

If that character doesn't die heroically, how can the show truly touch you?

Mr and Mrs Agathon are my favourite character's as I think he's really cool and she's really gorgeous. I also felt really sorry for her in series 2 when she's almost raped and basically treat like crap. Other favourite characters are Chief, Tigh and Bill. In fact the only characters I wasn't too keen on were Crashdwn and Kat.

Welcome to the forum and the Agathon fan club. I think you put it very well. All through Season Two she is treated badly by the colonials.

Oh I didn't try to imply I wanted a Hollywood ending, I hate those. I meant more that, "hope my two favorite characters don't kill themselves or dies thinking everyone hates them". If the end scene is a couple happily kissing on a beach I'll puke.

Very good point (see Hornblower: Loyalty, Star Trek Nemesis), but that would also be a bit cliché. I hope it doesn't come down to a "live happy or die heroically" ending, it's been done before.

True. I was hoping that Baltar and his followers would die of one or more STDs.

Hmm... kinda would give new meaning to that whole "wasting disease" bit, eh?

I'm rather fond of Mr. Anders. For asthetic reasons entirely, of course. ;)

I'm also very fond of Starbuck, Tigh, Tyrol and Dualla. And Six. And Roslin.
