Season 5 has become so twist-y and full of supposition that sometimes as I'm reading some way-out theories in Lost forums, I'm feeling some crossover to BSG. The "live together, die alone" mantra, for example. It reminds me of humans and cylons having to work together for survival. And all the
"visions" of dead characters who revisit living characters...that place between life and death...head characters. AAARRGH! Must...turn off...TV...

Lost has taken actual inspiration from BSG if i recall properly - the time jumps and all.

I'm on Season 2 and catching up quickly. It's thoroughly enjoyable, but if I had to watch it as 1 episode per week, I think that I would end up stabbing my tv with a samurai sword.

The only reason I'm not watching it is because I've only managed to see the first 22 hours of the series. I really want to get caught up by the time the final season begins; that's my only major stipulation. It will probably be more enjoyable when I don't have to gouge my eyes out waiting on answers since 2004.
Geez, that sounds familiar.

I can't stand that bunch of whiney troglodytes, and I couldn't care less if their island sank. I'll admit, it's kept its audience, but it is now stagnant and, er, lost.

just watched the most recent episode. Really don't get it, yet strangely fascinated. It's like Candy Floss.

I always wanted to eat fibreglass for that very reason. Mum said "no".

She's very wise. I hope she avoids lost too.

I Haven't even seen Season 1, I watched 20 minutes of the first ever episode and bailed.
The series premiere, especially the first hour, really didn't seem to represent the series proper at all to me. I saw the first four-hour block on Sci-Fi and almost bailed where you did, and it didn't even get much better. But surprisingly, it got a fair bit better thereafter.
It was no 'Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries', that's for sure. Very few shows' pilots are top-notch, and 'Lost' was far and away no exception, but the following several episodes after its beginning actually began to intrigue me somewhat.
Hell, 'Farscape' rubbed me the wrong way for damn near an entire season, but it picked itself up to the point that it's one of my favorites.
I just love that BSG started so strong, damn convention-toaster it is.

I'm still watching after all this time - stuck with it from episode one, although God knows how I managed to make it through the interminable series 3 where they seemed less inclined to actually get off the island and more like they just wanted to play a nice round of gold.
I think it's problem is that up until recently, they still didn't know where to go with it (assuming of course that they now do), and just seemed to be there to raise question after question. That kind of approach failed before back with the X-Files, and like that series, for a while I thought it was going to disappear up its own rear end. With the end now in sight however, it seems like they're actually beginning to realise they need to answer all the questions they posed.
Season 5 has been a big improvement on previous seasons. It has certainly been much more consistent, and that consistency seems to be of a quite entertaining quality. It's certainly not BG quality however so while there have been some very good episodes, its nowhere near the best television has to offer.

So, in my quest to find decent people to discuss lost with, Prolescum notified me that I could pst in the entertainment section, so here we are. Now this discussion is not limited to simply the most recent episode of lost, but considering Wednesday's episode took the show down a very different path, I'm curious, how many of you guys have watched lost up to its most recent episode, and how do you feel about the shows current direction. Feel free to throw in your own pet lost theories, and hoepfully with sufficient interest we can some good dialogue going.
The internal continutity of Lost has always impressed me, even with the additon of time travel you can go back to season one and see how things fit together, LaFleur really brought Sawyer into his own, he is my favorite character in Lost, closely seconded by Desmond, I can't really stand Jack, and well Jack in my opinion has been hindering not helping the story of the Island progress, It sucks that we have to wait two weeks to find out what Jack is gonna say about them being in 1977, and the fact that Sawyer is now with Juliet.
Well, just post how you feel about the show, but please, no Lost sucks stop watching it posts, if you dont like the show, then just ignore my little thread.

I've been watching Lost Season 5 ... I started watching the series itself a year ago and finally caught up through Season 4 last Fall. It's a solid series from a storytelling standpoint. But it's "lost" a bit of what made it so damned good to begin with: namely the focus on characters. These days Lost is more about how many plot twists they can jam into an episode than it is about the characters themselves. Don't get me wrong, the episodes are thoroughly entertaining (and more consistent than BSG). But compared to Season 1 and early Season 2, they're relatively empty and hollow.

I'm one of those people that felt Lost never "lost" its magic. Sure, 3rd season was a let down somehow, but I'd never say it was bad. And right now, I just love the way the story is going. I just see it like, well, every season is different, and that's good. I for starters will be very bored right now if the story were just about the hatch from season 1 or the Others from season 3. No, I enjoy the plot twists and the storytelling.

The character-driven seasons were very well done, I agree. I think now, though, the show has evolved past that into the time travel stuff because there was only so much backstory that could be shown for each character. I think of this show like it is set up in volumes...we're in the time travel volume now. Knowing each character as we do, it should be interesting how the time travelling may alter the events that made them who they are, or were, in the first few seasons.
