I really want to swear...

Sod it. Aero is pointless, really the worst compositing manager, bloated to an unfathomable degree...

improved media format support... They've given up limiting people's choices? I don't think so...

improved handwriting recognition? Who gives a toss? Proper artists use macs anyway.

A new task bar... Who's betting it'll be a big circle in the middle of the screen with icons on it...

Quite pathetic, IMFFBO

Its a pity, really. They do have all these features developed, so why deprive them from people? And anyway, if someone isn't interested, they wouldn't use it anyway.
But it will be there when it is needed.
ADDENUM: Yes, you'll still end up with unknowledgable people turning on Aero when their PC can't run it without slowing to a crawl, but thats an unfortunate side-effect which can be averted with some talking (hopefully).

For example, most people will end up with Home Premium, and when someone need to remotely log into their machine for some reason (troubleshooting, configuration, etc) he/she will have to go through some painful phone-guidance to have a third party program or service (like VNC) installed.

Yes, I am the geek most family members turn to to look after their PC :(

Me too. It's a constant headache.

I have managed to get compiz (compositing window manager) running on a machine built for Windows ME, and it can do 50,000,000 times more. Well, not that much, but still. Wobbly windows...
