I saw this over on the battlestarblog, so I've shamelessly stolen it, including their logo. Credit to whoever came up with the idea.
The rules are obvious - just vote for the worst episode from Season One. You have until this time next Saturday to cast your vote, then I (or someone else) will post a new poll with the remaining episodes, and we can vote another one off before the following Saturday. Eventually we'll end up with one episode, which will be the best episode of the season in the opinion of the forum as a whole. If we get through a vote a week it'll take thirteen weeks, which is about how long is left until Season 4.5 starts.

I agree. I don't know what the point of that Valance guy was. It had some good Baltar moments but overall it sucked a bit.

I like "Colonial Day"! It's a nice change from all the episodes set on Galactica. And I enjoyed all the political intrigue, Roslin's backstabbing/pragmatism, getting to see how the fleet news system works. A better episode than "Litmus", surely?

I'm surprised at the choice of Water. I thought it was a great episode. I felt the interplay between Boomer and Tyrol was a bit unconvincing but I enjoyed the episode nonetheless.

Tigh Me Whatever was not bad, but I thought that the Billy/Dee stuff was lame. I also didn't like the funny music during all of the comedic parts of the episode. Ellen is a mega-whore who should die! Oh wait, she did. I was sad to see her go.

Can't say I liked Tigh Me Up... that much, to be honest. Season 1's probably the most difficult for me, as I think it's the most consistent in terms of quality.
The Dirt
November 3rd, 2008, 10:18 AM
Season 1 was pretty solid overall. I liked Colonial Day as it was a nice showcase of colonial politics and civilian life. It also was a good setup for Baltar's VP and presidency at the end of Season 2, as well as Zarek's attempts at power grabbing. Tigh Up/Down was good too, but it just had some weak moments for me, such as the Billy/Dee scenes, and the whole Raider thing was pointless.

HUGE filler. It was good, but...nothing great.

November 17th, 2008, 07:05 PM
I loved the end of "Litmus" when Adama put her in her place.
There are things I like about 6 degrees, especially putting Baltar through the ringer in order to make him unassailable (or less easily assailable) later.
However I am deeply unsatisfied with the whole Shelley storyline. Either she was a visible personification of Head 6 - which has not happened again and is not explained, or she was a cylon that came out of hiding which implies that head 6 has some sort of communication with the cylons though that has never been followed up.
Thinking more about it, if Shelley really had been Doctor Amorak's assistant, then she could have been the one that Caprica six talked to in the mini.
The Dirt
November 17th, 2008, 07:14 PM
Yeah, plot holes galore! Since Baltar worked with Amorak, I think he would know that he assistant looked just like his girlfriend of 2 years. Otherwise, that would be a great sitcom. Anyway, I'll say it again - why the hell does Baltar not know his Cylon girlfriend's real name? Also, if she was just an apparition, what's up with her glasses? Why didn't they disappear?

In a few words:
Last Saturday night, a policeman killed a 16 year old kid. The victim's friends say that it was intentional, and since then we had MAJOR riots going in every city of the country. It is not about this kid of course, but this incident was probably the last straw that broke things up, since a lot of people were extremely unhappy about the present administration.
Hopefully it will get calmer soon.

I mean, it's great that BSG has those things, obviously. It can just go overboard with it sometimes. There's also the feel-good factor. Hand of God...you feel great at the end of it. Lee's done it, he's fired the proton torpedoes at the refining tanks, the Cylons have had their noses properly bloodied for the first time since Galactica gave them that nasty surprise at Ragnar. Flesh And Bone...the whole DARKER AND EDGIER stuff doesn't leave you feeling great. It's still a great episode, obviously. Really, the two episodes represent both sides of what BSG does really well.

I'm gonna go ahead and vote 33 on this. As great as it is, it doesn't beat the KLG's and the first time I saw it I was bored. Around the time of KLG I was hooked and a lot more interested and that feeling still remains when I watch them.

I'm with you, Stairway. 33 blew me away when I first watched it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing unfold. The Kobols topped it, though, in my book, especially the montage at the start of Part 1.

33, because i thaught "ah no, what if they screw it up, make a great mini-series, but then chance the whole cast before the real series begins...." (kinda SG-1 style, only, that worked well!) but they didnt it just blew you away from the get go

KLG Pt. II is going to win in the end.
I wouldn't accept it otherwise tbh. KLG2 was my first BSG episode and I already talked about my train of thought as I watched it. And its still a beautiful episode.

Ok people, this is the final vote, the 16th is nigh and by then we shall have our answer to who is the world's next top BSG Season 1 episode!

Nothing can beat the opening sequence of KLG pt 1! Plus, I found the whole Sharon-on-the-basestar scene a tad lacking in tension. We've known she's a Cylon since the miniseries, it just wasn't really the huge dramatic moment it could've been. So, silver medal for KLG pt 2.

Yeah it was a toss-up between the opening montage and 15 naked Sharons.

Part 11 wins for me, the opening montage is excellent in Part 1 but Part 11 really moves things forward for me and sets up the first 7 eps of season 11 perfectly IMO.

Really.... is this vote needed.... It would be a dumb ass situation is a Part 2 was considered worse than the episode that sets it up

I think it's quite neat that 33 came 3rd.
Also KLG Pt. II should win because Adama getting shot was one of the most brilliantly executed (pun not intended) scenes in BSG.

Nah, I must say Part I is somewhat better. Although Part II had The Shape of Things to Come, Part I had Passaglia and less religious number six crap.
