On Set Pictures

Last September, Broadway Cares held its 21st annual charity AIDS auction. Aside from premiere night broadway tickets, tv show walk ons and memorabilia one auction of note was a backstage visit to the set of Battlestar Galactica.

The winner is graciously sharing his experience by posting 68 pictures of his Monday before last visit in a Flickr Photo Album (http://www.flickr.com/photos/honus/sets/72157602485969223/)

Available in six megapixel resolution, these images are the closest look 99.9% of us will ever get at the sets in detail. The CIC printouts are clearly legible. A resurrection tank is on hand looking a bit naked without appropriate illumination and emptied of goo. A clipboard shows the presidential election results from each ship in the fleet.

The last few pictures reveal minor spoilers in the way of which cast members are shooting, and who is shooting with whom, for episode (correction) 4.11 or 4.12. ADD: Not so minor spoiler, the population count on Roslin's dry board. Ok so maybe there's a few in there. (Move to spoiler section if needed)

I LOVE the extensive use of bat switches.

I don't know why, but all my life, I've had a special place in my heart for rows of shiny silver bat switches...I don't know why, they just feel RIGHT.

Some day I want to have an old car with a simple dashboard where I can install a bunch of them for the controls, even if they are mostly illegal for automotive use...

Of course, I'm not sure if they're really right for GALACTICA. Rocker switches probably would fit better, as they're more rugged and utilitarian...but I'm not complaining!

Also, are those RCA and coaxial jacks I'm seeing all over the panels?

From all accounts, space is always at a premium in the cramped sets other than the large hangar space. I can't imagine that "piece of furniture" is in the middle of one of the small sets for any reason other than filming purposes.

It doesn't look at all like a prop or set piece, but then nothing does in the harsh glare of the digital camera flash.

Honus can call the Mk VII the stealth ship if he wants to. It was very thoughtful to up, tag and share the full resolution pictures in public flickr.

I see Joe's already found 3266NC. The Wiki that never sleeps :)

I LOVE that, if you zoom in, you can actually see that the stick figure is holding a doughnut WITH A BITE OUT OF IT and spilling his coffee! :D That's one hell of a props department, right there.
