View Full Version : Can Someone Explain Something To Me

Why is Battlestar Galactica season 2 broken up into two DVD sets, both of which only have 10 episodes? Each box set costs the same as a full season, this doesn't compute in my mind.

I can think of no better way for NBC Universal to make gobs of money. It's going to be the same story with the season 4 DVDs (4.0 and 4.5).

That is really disappointing, because I bought 2.5 thinking it was an enhanced version of 2.0. Then I got home and went on the internet to discover I also need to buy 2.0. So I have the second half of season 2 and haven't even seen the first half...

And better yet, I don't have enough money to purchase 2.0 now.

If I had to guess and give an honest answer, they likely had a long hiatus between the first half and second half of Season 2. Therefore, like they're doing with Season 4, they released the first half of the season on DVD prior to the start of the second half of the season, with the latter half being released at a later date.

you were ripped off by a charlatan, who saw you coming... Did you check before purchasing, my young padowan?? Did you ask the relevant questions like 'is this the complete series 2' or, 'are you ripping me off?' or you could go back and say your brother bought you this piece of crap, and that you will destroy him.

This has always worked for me, I bought series 1 originally and it was only episodes 1-10 originaly. Can you imagine what happened after me and Arista found out? We moved house, enjoyed the full season and now answer to the name of 'Keith' and Arista.

There is an unsolved murder now. I know nothing...Arista......well she 'says' she doesnt know anything, but I dont know......

I waited till the whole S2 was released. Exactly the same as I'm waiting for 'ALL' of S4.. and the "Complete Star Wars Box Sex Ultimate Directors Cut Version 4.5"

Well, being the sucker I am I went ahead and drove to the store and bought the first half.... Even though I really shouldn't have spent the money.

i was even more of an idiot. having moved to ruralville, usa, recently, i slogged through snowbound streets, across glaciers, over icebergs, under blizzards and through white outs and back again, only to find i had bought two season 2.5's. No season 2. AAAArRRGGHH! it'll be a year til winter lets up! But i did buy razor, saw it for the first time ever. I posted some comments on the razor, rewatched thread in episodes. hope to get some feedback. Speaking of suckers, does anyone have any suggestions for a good large screen tv? plasma or lcd? Most bang for my buck? i want to be set for jan. 16, and i'm currently watching a zenith from 1972. Plan to get the other dvd's if i can find them, at the same time. Really, i'm not a technogeek, so brands or sizes or features or models... bring on your insights. thanks.

I went with LCD, picture quality craps all over plasma.... Careful not to get too big or you lose quality big time. Goes for both plasma and lcd.

Here ends the extent of my knowledge.....

Oh geez, two 2.5's? That is quite an oversight, and you've got no way to return one of them? Surely you didn't open both of them.

Well at least you get all the bonus material. My S2 DVD is just one box (and really cheap too, cheaper than one half of a season you got), but a lot of bonus material is non existent.

Well, according to genji we British folk don't have any choice with S4. We have to buy R2 4.0 and R2 4.5/'Final Season'.

Or you could go down to Asda and pick up a cheapo multi-region DVD player for about £40 and then order the R1 DVDs from playusa.com.

I think the US will also only get S4.0 and S4.5.

There will be a complete collection though on both DVD and blu-ray, I would bet.

I sure hope so, gives me a reason to buy a blu-ray player. IF it's released in R2.

St.B - definitely LCD over plasma. Unless you have a dark room dedicated to tv watching, the plasma will have some glare issues. Next, you have 3 resolution choices - 720p, 1080i, and 1080p (from worst to best). The bigger the TV, the bigger the difference between the 3, so if you're going for something on the smaller end, I wouldn't worry way too much. You also have refresh rate - usually between 60Mhz and 120Mhz - which is how fast the screen updates its picture. For cool space battles and fast camera movements, the higher end is the best, but if you're not too picky, I doubt 60Mhz is going to look bad. One other thing to think about is contrast - how bright will the TV ever get - this might be important since BSG is rather darkly lit and has a lot of space stuff, so if you can't turn up the brightness, you won't see anything. Lastly is the brand. I prefer Samsung because of their overall high ratings, quality, and design. Sony is good but tends to be overpriced. You'll see a lot of price variation between brands, so before you buy any TV, jot down their model numbers and search for reviews online. You don't want to buy any TV that has a low consumer rating. Usually, those reviews point out some serious flaws that no one has thought of.

No, Season Four is the final season.
That's season 4, not "Season 4.0", as season 4 is broken up into "Season 4.0" and "Season 4.5" in the US (R1), and "Season 4" and "The Final Season" in the UK (R2). The more I type the word season the less meaning it has for me.

Meh, I'd rather they not, honestly. Then the quality just begins to sink.

Well, still, 4 seasons is not a lot, especially with the first only being 13 episodes. It would be nice if it had gone at at least one more season. I swear I remember hearing someone say the fifth season was scheduled to be the last.
