Here's an interesting picture I came across on IMDB.com (and later MPTV.com) of what appears to be a Cylon tank.

Click here to see it. (http://www.netropolisusa.biz/mptv/cgi-bin/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Image_Vault_Classic/Archive_S_thru_U/Television&image=9640-0014.jpg&img=0&search=battlestar%20galactica&cat=all&tt=&bool=and)

Huh. I imagine that'd have to be TOS and not 1980 for budget reasons. Maybe it was from a later/unfinished episode, or something that hit the cutting room floor? Though if it was in a deleted scene you'd think it'd be on the DVDs (though I have to admit to not sitting through all the deleted TOS scenes).

Whoa, that's pretty cool! Sort of an odd design, but anything with a Gatling gun that big is serious business, not just SciFi camp.

Although I expect they would have turned it into a "laser" cannon in post-production.

Its not a tank, the Cylons are far too exposed. It's more of a mobilised machine gun or laser gun probably as its TOS.

Maybe the best term would be "Infantry fighting vehicle"?

The closest analogy I can think of would be the WWII-era German half-tracks with open crew compartments and mounted machine guns.

Of course, vehicles to carry humans usually operate on the principle that if you want the occupants to be protected, you have to build a metal box around them. I'm not sure how you interpret a vehicle designed for occupants that already have the metal welded onto themselves.

Hey guys..new to the board but i thought I'd offer my thoughts on this "Tank"
If i remeber correctly it is actually from a theme park ride of sorts. I think it was Universal that put it on.. It was a battlestar Galactica Ride. Kinda like a BSG themed haunted house ride. That tank was supposed to "shoot" at the tram that you sat in. I beleive it was back in the early 80's

edit: Heres a link i just found to a little write up on the ride

Welcome to the boards, burningman!

Your comment about the theme ride makes sense, and plus there was a write-up on it in, if I recall correctly, an old Starlog that I probably have floating around in my collection. I'm going to have to dig it up now and start an article on that on Battlestar Wiki. :p

Kudos!

Thank ya for the welcome..I too remembered it from an issue of starlog (probably the same issue) and then just did a quick google on BSG themed rides and it was the forst to pop up...there are some vids too as well.

Yep, as mentioned, that Cylon fighting vehicle was at Universal Studios. The Cylons are mechanical and just sit there. The vehicle didn't do much more than shoot at the tourists as they went by.

It was impressive to young (then) fans of the old series though. Like me!
