What will you do when the "end of the world" crashes into your life and takes from you everything that you've ever known? Will you run and hide? How far and for how long? Will you stand your ground? Fight back until you can't fight anymore?

You're Frakking right you would!

Anyone who is interested in taking part in an online BSG role playing game is welcome at: http://groups.msn.com/BattlestarDamocles (http://groups.msn.com/BattlestarDamocles)

The game system is based on the "Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game" Corebook and will explore an alternate storyline that is separate from that of the Galactica.

Experienced and novice players are welcome!

I'm thinking about getting involved, but I feel like there's stuff I don't really understand...I mean, do I need to go out and buy that BSG RPG book? Am I supposed to have prior tabletop RPG experience? The only RPG I have experience with is EVE-Online, and that one is waaay more freeform than this appears to be.

Any advice?

Having played Eve Online before I can definitely understand the freedom issue, especially if you've never played a table top game before. Ideally, while the GM should have an over-all storyline, a good GM lets the players move the plot lines forward - regardless of the direction that the players go. So there should be a healthy amount of freedom in an RPG, versus it being a static and linear thing. That's also where the "Plot Point" system of the game comes in. Short explanation, they're kind of like the "wild" card in Uno - you can use plot points for a variety of things, including affecting the storyline.

As for whether you need to buy the book...There is also a PDF Quick Start guide that sells for under $10 that's available online. There's a link to one of the vendors in the Links section of my RPG site. I'm working with one of the players now to help get their character's stats in shape due to some difference between the Corebook and the Quick Start guide. As for dice, there are random number generator sites available online as well.

My email is posted in the Character Creation page. Why not drop me a line, give me a general idea of the type of character you're looking to play and we'll go from there.

If you wanted we could set up a special RPG section on this forum instead of relying on freehosted services which may close any no notice. How would you feel about thay?

I'm kind-of curious myself, since I had an idea from the episode "Downloaded" to make a RPG about the ships that ferry automobiles and what-not planet-to-planet but after the Cylon attack.

Is it like any of those Play By e-Mail games, btw, or no?

I had thought about doing something like that, but decided to go with the site I because I'm more familiar with it. (Read: I'm not web designer material). Another big reason was so players could be in different "locations" through different threads connected to the same, or different Boards in the same overall System. I did, however, wish I could have made it more graphically appealing - but if things really take off, I might switch to a new format.

Feedback, suggestions, advice are always welcome.

Kind of like a "would a group of civies" be able to survive after the Cylon attack? Definitely an interesting question and would be neat to see the transition of a group of regular folks into the kind of desperate, but effective, band that Anders and the like became on Caprica.

The game could be compared to one of those Play By e-Mail types, but I tend to think of it more as being like the forums here, and thus a bit more interactive. Whatever you post is open for anyone to see. So I tend to encourage players to be creative in order to put on a good show. Besides, I've gotten encouraging feedback from fans of the show who aren't RPG inclined.

If you're interested in getting involved, check out the site http://groups.msn.com/BattlestarDamocles/_whatsnew.msnw
and email me regarding the type of character you're interested in creating. There's some information on creating characters on the webpage.

Just an FYI that the Battlestar Damocles RPG has concluded Episode One and is now moving on to Episode Two.

Episode One took place on the day of the Cylon Attack, just as the crew of the Damocles was running experiments/ field tests on a recently discovered flaw in the Command Navigation Program. With most of its defensive systems down, the Damocles was forced to retreat after detecting swarms of basestars jumping into the system.

Episode Two picks up shortly after the Damocles' jump to a sector of the Hydra Nebulae.

Feel free to take a look at the game site. New players are welcome at any time. Reader comments are always welcome.

We are currently drawing to a close on our Fourth Episode: Desperate Alliances (Part II) and, at the end of Episode Five, Season One. An episode guide has been added to the page in order to provide summaries of previous episodes for Season One.
