I know it's been out a while and probably talked to death - but I've new here and have only just noticed it. It's the main homepage pic of SciFi's BSG page
Now obviously it's a take on the last supper by Da Vinci. I reakon that the last Cylon is the missing person who would occupy the gap right next to Lee Adama. THe fact that the 'Holy Grail' is put right there is something of a conceptual giveaway - isn't it?
Anyway - the symmetry of the picture is interesting also. The same position on the other side of the table is occupied by Tyrol - a cylon who has just lost someone very close to them.
Hmmm - who else was just moaning about having the only living thing they cared about killed (Romo Lampkin about his cat). He is linked to Lee Adama after all (i.e. the person he's spent most screen time with).
Well as I said - it's all probably been said before, just haven't found it yet

I'm inclined to delete this thread as piss-taking spam. Of course it's been discussed.
The end of this (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showpost.php?p=24588&postcount=8) thread explains how you can see older threads, some of which may be in the Spoiler section, which is accessible by joining the relevant group in User CP / Group Membership.

Ignore Genji, it is an interesting picture, what do you think it might mean.

That's a bit fraking unfirendly isn't it?
A genuine fan of the show joins this forum and their first post about a theory (in the section called theorising and fanwanking of all things!!) gets threatened with deletion by (what a presume is) a moderator. BTW - looked at the thread that was suggested - couldn't find any mention of the picture.
Anyway - since someone else asked ... I think the meaning of the picture is that it is a puzzle, and one of the simplpest ones possible - i.e. fill in the blank as the missing person is the final cylon.
That's my take anyway

No, it's a bit frakking friendly, hence the two tips about how to view frakking older threads and join the Spoilers frakking forum. Just a different way of saying welcome. I guess frakking it failed.

Don't mind genji. Welcome to the forum! Stick around and have some tea (if you're British), have some Amp/Rockstar/Red Bull/or other annoying energy drink name (if you're an USAian), or horseraddish shrimp pudding (if you're none of the above).
Here's the deal -- this picture has been discussed to death, resurrection via shiny Viper, and finger paint on the walls. So it was either taken as a joke or as you not looking around enough. I think the reason you didn't find any threads about it is that there's some date cutoff for default search queries. Just look around some more and you will find it. Nuggets are welcome!

Aww. Poor sod. It is an interesting picture, but it doesn't mean what I think you think it means, ie it has very little to do with what's happening in the show, it's designed to stimulate debate on t'internet. Problem is, due to the medium involved, it's already been disected and poked from each and every direction. If you search in here a bit and still feel there's something to add, then throw it this way bearing in mind it may well have been considered and dismissed, (I think Timbo knows hows to fight against the tide if you need a pointer or two), and don't be offended by the 'billy goats gruff' who've heard it a million times before, they've just heard it a million times before.

It's not Roslin you know. Since his original slip-up regarding the Last Supper photo, RDM has clarified twice that the Final Cylon is not in the photo. It's a shame we have that external piece of evidence at all, but alas we do.
I took the advice and found some earlier posts ... there's indeed alot of speculation but one common theme (hence the quote above) ... RDM says the final cylon isnot in the Last Supper photo.
I wonder whether that's the whole point - there's the obvious gap ... the picture is incomplete (I haven't burrowed beyond the first dozen or so in the search returns, but it seems no one's mentioned the gap for a while at least).
If I was someone who had never watched BSG and clapped eyes on this picture - it'd would be the first question I'd ask.

Well the gap is pretty much closed in terms of discussion. That space is left for the Final Cylon, hence he/she is not in the picture. I'm not sure if the gap has any significance other than that.
Frakking.

To me, the gap signifies a sense of loss. Loss of loved ones, of home, the old way of life on the colonies. It is the lost piece of their hearts that they left on their old homes. A feeling of emptiness, that something is missing from "the big picture". The Final Cylon is just a metaphor, a void or vessel that the survivors can fill with their hopes and dreams. The empty seat, the chalice all signify a vessel, whether this is a vessel of past feelings or a vessel of future possibilities is for us to decide. The Final Cylon can either be the return to the old or the "moving on" to something new or different - perhaps a breaking of the cycle, if you will.
Lee's pondering look suggests that he is considering the possibilities, not sure where the future lies. Tigh is turning away, not wanting to face up to his reality - the reality that he really is a Cylon and he killed his wife because she was collaborating with the Cylons. Baltar is looking up, in almost a trance-like state. Is he hoping to "be touched by an angel" or be touched one? We will never know. Or will we?
If we fold the right half of the picture over the left, transpose it, flip it upside down, and draw mustaches on Tyrol and Athena, we clearly see their transformation from what they were to what they have become. Both of them Cylons, both having chosen their allegiances, both reaching out of something, and both of them with mustaches drawn on their faces.

Commander Genji is british and they have been known for their warped cynical black humor (ie fawlty towers). Once you understand this type of humour it is actually quite funny and you don't get offended.
However the key to the last supper picture i believe is the fire that Laura Roslin has. RDM is frakking with us when he says the final cylon is not there, she is.
Or the final cylon is Number 7 and we were thinking that it was number 8.

What I'm about to say is probably a waste of time, but I keep wondering about the book on the left being closed vs. the open book on the right.
genji2000
September 5th, 2008, 11:36 PM
There are three books. Two of them are closed, one is open. There are three drinking vessels. Two of them are glasses, one is a goblet. The picture has changed over time (e.g. Head Six has gradually moved away from Baltar, and the small bowl used by Roslin to burn something is now transparent, although if you click on Natalie, Roslin fades into darkness and the bowl returns, slightly to the right of its original position).
Anyway, about the book - it signifies the two-of-three motif (two books out of three are closed). Similarly, the characters are all arranged in groups of three:
Roslin, Natalie, Tigh (two Cylons, one human)
Lee, Baltar, Head Six (two humans, one whatever-she-is)
Kara, Anders, Tyrol (two Cylons, one human)
Athena, Helo, Adama (two humans, one Cylon)
The Dirt

The fire signifies Roslin's move away from the colonial religion to something else.
The Six moving thing - I just don't see it. I noticed that her graphic isn't as smooth as the others when you scroll, but that's about it. She in the same position she's always been.

Why does the fire return if you click Natalie or Tigh? A mistake? It's not like it's been left where it was originally.

I believe that the fire represents Roslins desire as the final cylon and also as the original cylon creator to burn humanity out of existance. That is why RDM removed it as it is giving the game away too early.

Atomic, welcome to the forum! :)
First off, never be afraid to post any ideas you have on the forum. I have seen the theories about the Last Supper picture, the end of the show, and the identity of the final cylon mentioned here ad nausium. You know what I have noticed? Every time we mention the same subject, someone comes up with a new angle that could potentially reveal the answer. Until the show ends, none of us knows for sure, so none of us can say if someone else's theory is wrong or right.
Second, don't mind genji2000. He's usually very good at these posts. My theory is that he, like the rest of us, are getting just a little cranky about having to wait till January 2009 to watch the rest of season 4. Frak, we are tired of waiting. FRAK YOU SCIFI FOR MAKING US WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ma d:
Finally, I myself posted a thread on the Last Supper picture myself. In my thread, I compared the Leonardo DeVinci picture of the last supper with the BSG picture. In particular, I compared where the disciples were sitting in reference to where the BSG characters were sitting. In reference to the final cylon, I noticed the following: In reference to the final cylon, the seat where the final cylon is seated is occupied by Judas in the original picture. In case you or someone reading this post doesn't know, Judas was the disciple who betrayed Jesus (possible foreshadowing) and is attributed at least three deaths (suicide by hanging, accidental fall as he is carrying his forty pieces of silver, and being killed by the other disciples. Most people believe Judas died by hanging).
Maybe these observations mean something, or we are all wasting our time. We won't know till 2009 anyway, so why not enjoy it while it lasts?

Thanks everyone - this has been a great thread, very illuminating ...
Anyway - just a little aside ... the glass in front of baltar which is only partially filled with water is a methaphor for the ambiguity of his character.
Is he good or bad? - is the glass half full or half empty?
As for the ID of the final cylon - if I was to stick a tenner on it (and I'm giving away my natioanlity there) - I would still go for Romo Lampkin, but then again, I've never won a bet in my life!!

They're not gone. Anders has his on his right arm and that one is hidden behind Starbuck, and on a HD version of the photo you can clearly see Starbuck's tatoo.

I've only seen the last episode of season 4, missed the others.... Anyway, Apollo is the President right now, correct? His VP I would think should be beside him in the picture... Who is his VP currently?
Granted, this has more holes that a collander hit with a shotgun blast if he's not prez, but it's a thought...

Yes she does, it's clearly visible in the Road Less Traveled e.g.
They probably just forgot to add it on the shoot and realized their mistake later.

Yeah I knew I'd seen it on the Demetrius trip. So, whatever she is, she's physically the same person she always was. It's not like there's a dead Kara body lying around somewhere.
Unless whoever cloned her also tattooed the body before waking it up.

Apollo was just the interim prez while Roslin was kidnapped by the Cylons. I assume Zarek was still the VP, and the whole premise of not making Zarek the interim president was because the Admiral would have a hissy fit. I assume Roslin is back to being the president now.
So you're probably suggesting that Zarek is the final Cylon.

In Adama's quarters Roslin asked Lee to stay where he was, or words to that effect. I don't know who's the godsdamn president any more.

Do you know that? Zarek was elected to vice-president so how can Lee usurp him? I'd've thought Lee would revert back to his position as representative for Caprica on the Quorum.

Perhaps you're right, but since Lee usurped him as acting president anyway (this should have been Zarek, no discussion about it), and being vice-president is really hollow if you are never allowed to be even acting president, I guess Lee is at least de-facto vice-president. If Roslin becomes too ill to govern, Lee will take over (any coups aside, of course), for sure.

Weirdly enough there seems to be all the elements of Tarot in the picture, not that I think someone went out of their way to do it but it's interesting (ish) nonetheless.
Suit of cups (chalices)
Suit of wands (either Roslin holding the stick or fire as an element is represented by the suir of wands anyway)
Suit of Swords (dagger held by tyrol)
Suit of Coins/pentangles (dog tags, even though the dogtags appear to be hexagons)
Each of these represent one of the four elements (Earth, wind, fire and water) which in turn represent star signs of the Zodiac. Given the number of props for each, you could probably go about making a prediction if you read Tarot, ooh the fun.
You can read anything into a picture! ;) Have no idea how to explain the book props though and I wouldn't know whether a glass could be a cup/chalice...

okay I'm going to be really sad and read tarot...
Ace of Wands (there's a stick on fire) - "The initiator of vision and imagination moves from the safe and conventional world into the unknown towards an imagined goal. It is a beginning of the great journey into the world of vision and imagination. Element of fire, potential, sexual, creative power, force of nature, vitality, start of an activity, fertility, enthusiasm, individuality, originality, enterprise, new concepts towards trust, optimism."
Two of cups - The 2 of cups, a pair, unison. Things are finally coming together; there is so much joy and happiness right now. There is so much that you are almost over flowing with joy. Have your fill. Things are going really well for you and there could be the start of a loving, kind relationship. But there is always another side to all of this. Just as you should have your cake and eat it, you should be careful not to over fill and lose what you do have. The more the cup is filled the more it becomes empty.
WHOSE CUP IS FILLED AND WHOSE IS EMPTY...
Ace of Swords - "Creative source of the power of air and intelligence, conception of an idea. Cutting power of the mind towards both terrible suffering and sublime new resolutions. Unexplored potential movement and aggressive action. Awakening of mental power often means collision with old beliefs and patterns. Mind over matter. Initial eruption of a new world-view. The start of a completely new concept. Conquest, outburst, fight, struggle before peace"
Apologies if I get told off for quoting others websites but I am placing the link now if its a huge problem...
