View Full Version : All of your theories have me lost; I need a super-helpful friend!

I have recently watched the entire BSG series for the first time, and i am on season 2 of my second viewing. I find the greatest part of BSG (by a looong shot) is not enjoying the creators story, but filling in the gaps yourself to create your own back story. What interest me most about this is linking the current "caprica humans" to ourselves, and predicting our future past the "caprica humans". I know i know, sci-fi doesn't always have to be about "our" future, but i think a BSG not based on "our" future is not nearly as interesting.
To the reason i am posting before i go on and on about things that i will be discussing in a later post. There are many, many questions i have, as it is hard for a single man, with only watching the series a single time, to get all this down. The first set of questions are about a topic containing a list of theories, and many of them i have never heard. Could you please explain these theories?
http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?t=1495
- Tigh is not a Cylon / chip in eye theory (no idea about this)
- The colonial fleet is not on Earth (okay they could be on another planet, but wouldnt that just be bad writing?)
- Kara Thrace is a clone grown in a petri dish (i think I'm tracking, but please explain just in case)
- Lee Adama as the Final Cylon (unless this theory includes his father as a cylon, please explain)
- Pythia is the Final Cylon (I'm sorry, who is Pythia? i have bad luck with the names)
- The humanoid Cylon models are the Lords of Kobol (i thought the writers intended for this to be common knowledge, but the details behind it to be a mystery, please explain in detail)
- The Final Five are ghosts that possess hapless humans (though this would explain a lot, i cant see this being possible. this shows seems to be based around science, not hokey pokey stuff, so how would you explain this theory and make it fit into the writing?)
- Kara picked up her Viper and visited Earth in the past / time travel theory (this obviously makes great sense, but why would the writing include this one instance of time travel only? time travel is such a big deal, if it was going to be used in the writing i would imagine we would see it as much as FTL jumps)
- TOS is canon to RDM and ran in a different cycle (lol, what does TOS, canon, and RDM mean?)
- Boomer is the Final Cylon (please explain as she is a cyclon already)
- Baltar died in the blast on Caprica in the Miniseries (i like this one, but there is too much confirmed interaction between Baltar and other characters, please explain)
- Hero is the tits (guessing thats a joke)
Wow, it seems i know squat about every theory in that post, so i will save my other questions for later. I know i am asking for a lot of information, but i do believe i have read every topic in this forums and i am still lost on these theory's. I look forward to hear the theories laid out, and to provide my own once my little brain has time to comprehend this all.

Zompton -- no need to worry. A lot of these theories are half-baked and completely wrong (because only my theories are right, as soon as I make some up). I think that this site is a good way of just brainstorming. Someone has a good idea, but their logic is screwed up, so they post it here. Someone else picks apart their theory and makes them temporarily feel dumb, but in the end, a newer, better theory arises.
We are all patiently waiting to find out what happens when the show returns in January of '09 and we're having trouble coping with the months long wait. Theorizing just keeps our minds from turning into mush in the interim. My work productivity has gone down significantly, I ignore my fiance, and my life loses all meaning unless I see another BSG spoiler, interview, or video clip. It's like a drug, and it's making me sick.

Would you be willing to briefly explain or discredit these theories please..., PLEASE!!!
Come on, you must know how i feel, and these unexplained theories are making it so much worse.

1. Tigh is not a Cylon/chip in eye (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=7514#post7514)
This is Timbo (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=412)'s pet theory. Timbo comes up with some real out-of-the-box ideas and this is one that he's stuck with for a while. Unfortunately, Adama's line (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=18539#post18539) in Revelations (about the Cylons fitting some device in Tigh's head during his imprisonment on New Caprica) didn't help matters.
2. The colonial fleet is not on Earth (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?t=1326)
This theory was (I believe) first espoused (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=17888#post17888) by Proxenus (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=590). It was a pretty strong argument for a while, but I think it was dispelled by the Revelations podcast, although it's always difficult to tell when RDM is hiding something.
3. Kara Thrace: clone grown in a petri dish
This is a reference to her line in He That Believeth In Me. Most people are pretty sure she's not a Cylon, but if Kara died in Maelstrom then who is this chick? The variety of theories about Kara Thrace and her Special Destiny are too numerous to track down and quote here.
4. The cycle of time will be broken this time around (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=19659#post19659)
A relatively widely-held opinion I believe, based on D'Anna and Lee's dialogue in the hangar bay in Revelations. Timbo was the theory's chief proponent IMO.
5. Lee Adama is the Final Cylon (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=14989#post14989)
This was not intended to attract agreement with the theory (http://en.battlestarpegasus.com/wiki/The_Last_Cylon:_Who_is_the_Fifth_of_the_Final_Five _in_%22Battlestar_Galactica%22), but appreciation for the weight of the argument (much of which was contradicted by later events in the show - the article was written in October 2007 and revised in May 2008) presented by Joe Beaudoin (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=2).
6. Pythia is the Final Cylon (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=18020#post18020)
This was a joke. I think (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=19511#post19511). However, Pythia (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Pythia) and her Sacred Scrolls (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Sacred_Scrolls) were not.
7. 12 Cylon models = 12 Lords of Kobol (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=13722#post13722).
This was a favourite of mine (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=813) when I joined the forum. Events in the show and other members' opinions have disabused me of the notion that 12 = 12 = 12, but I still like the symmetry.
8. Final Five ghosts possess human characters (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=16519#post16519)
sWozzie (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=178) bashed out a number of theories regarding the spiritual elements of the show. This one was his biggie I think, although I didn't buy it. Timbo also had a similar idea (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=14733#post14733).
9. Time Travel and Kara's Viper (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?t=1484)
Another sWozzie extravanganza, but one with elements I could agree with. I don't think time travel is a technological development in the show so much as a vagary of the space-time continuumuum.
10. TOS is canon to RDM and ran in a different cycle (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=20515#post20515)
There are those who believe that sci-fi shows here began out there. TOS = The Original Series (the old one from 1978, with Lorna Doone and Berk Derelict), RDM = The New Series (named after it's creator, Ron D.emi Moore), and 'canon' refers to the officially released episodes of the show, including Seasons 1-4, Razor, webisodes, the extended version of Unfinished Business, etc. I don't believe it includes the deleted scenes included as extras on the DVDs, but because most edits in BSG are made because of time constraints rather than events the director or RDM decides they don't want to include as part of the story, we generally accept them as canon. If a line of dialogue or a scene is included in canonical material then you can use it as proof for your argument, rather than speculation.
This theory effectively says that the RDM version is a continuation of the TOS version, rather than a replacement, that is: the TOS story occurred in the RDM universe.
I'm struggling to find threads that discuss this one, sorry. Here (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=20465#post20465)'s one though.
11. Boomer is the Final Cylon.
Wouter (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=578)'s theory is all over this forum. Read through some of these (http://www.battlestarforum.com/search.php?searchid=95491).
In a nutshell, Boomer is not a model Eight Cylon like Athena or the Rebel Eight in The Hub. She is potentially a model Seven, which is so similiar to an Eight that her consciousness is able to download into Eight bodies, enabling her to operate in secret in Cylon society just as the Watchtower Four operated in secret in human society. Ignore anyone who says he thinks Boomer is the Fifth, yet doesn't accept that she's not an Eight model: he hasn't the mental capacity to grasp the simple fact that if she's an Eight then she's Significant Seven, not Final Five.
12. Baltar died in the blast on Caprica (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?p=20629#post20629)
Lots of people bought into this after our co-ordinated re-watch (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?t=1410&highlight=idea+forum) began. As far as I know, Batman316 (http://www.battlestarforum.com/member.php?u=1212) was the first to mention it, but the same thing had occurred to many others.
13. Hero is the tits (http://www.battlestarforum.com/showthread.php?t=1243)
The vote option is a joke but I really don't think it's as bad an episode as everyone makes out.
I know i am asking for a lot of information, but i do believe i have read every topic in this forums

Zompton, welcome dude. I find your hunger for answers refreshing. Genji generously found some links for you, but after a month away (kidnapped by cylons, put in one of those beds with birthing stirrups, ovaries fettled with, back door probe, etc, you know the drill, Iīm sure) it will do me good to to reaffirm my almost total conviction that Tigh and the others had some sort of chip fitted in them on New Caprica to make them think they were cylons. Actually, I am now beginning to think that it wasnīt to make them think they were cylons, but perhaps a secret camera or some other form of cylon skullduggery. The way they heard the music, in snatches and half heard aural glimpses, makes me think that this was an unexpected side effect of whatever was put in their heads, and not something the cylons planned on. Possibly, in the end it will backfire on them, as the receivers lead them to the real location of Earth, not this false Earth we had at the end of the last episode. Whatever it is, is acting as some sort of receiver. Coming back after a break has given me a fresh perspective on all this. I am still as convinced as ever that they are not cylons, but I am remolding some of the finer points. The final version of the revised theory, tweaked and tuned to perfection, will be here soon. It will one day rival Einsteinīs "special theory of relativity", as the greatest ever example of a cool idea getting even cooler.

Are you thereby allying yourself with the 'this is not Earth' heretics?

I still think that maybe the song was being transmitted by one of those Vīger things that were sent out to introduce humanity to the rest of the universe. It might be in a cupboard in that room somewhere. What was that room where they all met up, by the way?
Are you thereby allying yourself with the 'this is not Earth' heretics?
The truth is, I dont really know what I think about that. Maybe.
This really is weird. Yīknow when you have what you think is a great idea (talking aboot day to day stuff now), and you think about the next day, and realise it was stupid, well, that hasnīt happened with me. After nearly a month away with my family in England, I had sort of forgotten about Tighīs eye. I came back itching to get on with the rewatch, and remembering that I loved BSG, but I honestly hadnīt thought too much aboot Tigh and co. But now, as I try to get some momentum going again on the forum, it is all coming back fresher and stronger than ever.
By the way, after nearly forty years fishing, I caught my biggest fish twice in a week. A fifteen pound pike, then a carp about eighteen pounds, as well as a cracking bass of aboot five pounds while down in Devon. Off topic, but fascinating, no?

I think it was the gym where Lee used to train to get rid of his prosthetic fat suit. Not sure though.
Joking about Tigh & Co. not being Cylons aside, I haven't paid much attention to where the music came from, why the WTF were the only receptors of it, and how it switched them on. This may be your fault because I've been too concerned with it not being a chip in the brain, but to my knowledge you're the only contributor who's made an effort to answer those questions. I think Head Six has made reference to each player making the melodies in a symphony or somesuch, in a kind of Silmarillion way (I must read that again soon - Tolkien's finest work I thought), but to me that's only as valid as Leoben's water/stream concept. I hope they dig deeper into both ideas in 4.5.

Some references indicate that they leave the planet in the very next episode, leaving D'Anna behind... others say a number of 4.5 episodes are concerned with them struggling with the reality of the state of Earth. The two are not mutually exclusive I suppose but I wonder where the Thirteenth Tribe fit into that?

You're going all Canadian now.

Never done fishing. Fifteen pounds sounds big, compared to, say, the size of a new-born baby. This may be the transition period into your elder statesman years. You can make out you've been catching fifteen-pound fish all your life because at last you know what it feels like. What did your dad catch?

Yeah, the music, the stream. With practice, I think we can begin to hear the symphony and swim in the stream. I am full of energy now, and seeing things more clearly after my break. The idea of Tory going over to the cylons just because Chief said "we are cylons, etc", is beautiful. She hasnīt looked inside herself to see who she is, she has let someone else decide for her. What a great side-story on identity - how could they pass up that opportunity.
