Hey everyone, I spent a lot of time putting this together using what I had for the series and filling in the blanks with my own ideas. This is a description of the 12 Colonies and each planet. I am working on a more elaborate version, but it will take time. Please comment if you have any suggestions or think something needs to be changed or revised.
Thanks.

Aquaria
Aquaria is located at the edge of Colonial Space, and 70% its surface is water. Initially this world was dependent on the produce from its large oceans, but the discovery of massive tylium deposits below its surface sparked a huge boom in industry which caused the population to double in thirty short years. Its tylium exports gained so much wealth for the capital city of Oceanus, that it developed on a massive scale, and sadly became a very polluted industrial city. Consequently, the environmentalists cause problems for the governing Aquarian Assembly that are currently undergoing projects to clean up several other polluted cities in addition to their capital. Aquaria is also home to a large fleet refueling center due to its substantial reserves.

Aerelon
Founded by the followers of the Fourth Lord of Kobol Ares, Aerelon is considered the breadbasket of the colonies, it even out paces the fertile Canceron in its food production. The planet is accompanied by three moons which create massive tidal forces on it that make high tectonic activity, making this planet very volcanically active. This, however, provides rich soil from which to grow crops. The northern hemisphere has a very low concentration of oxygen due to the much higher volcanic activity as compated to the southern hemisphere with lower concentrations. The southern hemisphere has a varying climate of temperate to tropical, allowing almost every type of crop to be grown. Aereans have adapted to the harshness of their climate in some places, giving them an edge at the Colonial Games, where they have made a good number of Golden Laureates. Aerelon is also the location of the High Marine Headquarters, and Fort Aspiring War College.

Canceron
Though, now overshadowed by its larger food producing cousin, Aerelon, Canceron had held first place in food production in all the years prior to the population boom on Aerelon. Its surface of fourteen continents are characterized by huge expanses of grassy plains with only one significant forest on the continent of Ileuses. Agronomy has developed to such a degree that Canceron is able to product four times the produce needed for its own consumption, though Aerelon still makes eight times the produce. Other colonies, most notably Tauron, depend in part on it for their food supplies. The capital of Elios is very un-industrialized and un-cosmopolitan to show the simple nature of its people. The Cancerons, due to their pastoral lifestyle have a higher religious precedence than other colonies, and also succeed in being very conservative, but are very polite and welcoming. Canceron is home to no notable military installations apart from garrisons, but several listening posts have been established since the First Cylon War.

Caprica
Caprica was the first colony to be established in the aftermath of the exodus from Kobol, it quickly developed into an industrial and military superpower. Its longtime rival before unification, Picon, also managed to become a similar superpower. Caprican society has evolved from its warmongering past to a peaceful, yet sophisticated society that now rarely use their dominance to exert control over other Colonies. At its roots, Caprica developed a primitive form of democratic governing which was later imitated by the rest of the Colonies. Caprican scholars have played an important role in its politics, and do so to this day. They were the ones that quickly encouraged the planetary government to unify in the Articles of Colonization act. As a result of their substantial efforts, the other Colonies decided to make Caprica City the seat of power for all three branches of the unified Colonial Government. Another major city on Caprica is Delphi, which contains its largest space-port, and the Colonial History Archive.

Gemenon
Gemenon was established at first as a flourishing industrial economy which processed the extensive resources on its surface. However, nearby Tauron's enormous industrial growth caused the Geminese economy to fall into a depression. In these times the Gemenese people became deeply religious, and were mostly immersed in translation of ancient scrolls and religious artifacts. With most of the heavy industry relocated to Tauron, the Gemenese Government embarked on a reformation policy and began to reform the capital of Covenant as a large financial centre. Favorable taxation forms saw commercial activity rise greatly from the eighteen year flatline of the depression. Many multi-colony corporations, exchanges, and the Colonial Reserve Bank set up their headquarters in Covenants prosperous financial district.

Leonis
Founded by the followers of Artemis, the seventh Lord of Kobol, the planet is largely undeveloped and is covered in vast forests, breathtaking mountain ranges, and exotic fauna which is a consequence of the planets strict environmental policies. The only major human cities are located on the East side of the Silver Continent where industrial deforestation has been banned. Leonis has a good sized population, but during vacation periods, the population swells with tourists and immigrant labor. This planet is also a popular destination for interplanetary cruise liners because of its free wilderness and its proximity to a nearby pulsar.

Libran
Libran is an arid world, that is on the smaller side of things. It also is sparsely populated due to its close orbit of its Sun. Libran is famous throughout the Colonies for the "Sanctuary of Apollo" which is located outside of the capital Lysandion. The Sanctuary was originally established by Priests who were members of the Order of Apollo. Its members were quite enlightened and wished to explore the universe. Over time the Sanctuary developed into an advanced research station and its status as an academic center surpassed all others. Patents for advanced technologies provide a stable income for the local economy. This planet was also where the first Cylon prototypes were developed, but further research was taken over by Caprica.

Picon
While its roots came from an agrarian society, Picon developed into one of the strongest military superpowers of the Colonies before unification. Challenging Caprica's might in several wars, the two colonies buried the hatchet after unification. Picon is a great trading partner to all of the colonies making a very wealthy world. Due to its economical success, pirates grew to be a major problem to the trading routes, and consequently created a military fleet second only to that of Caprica, but only by a few. The Piscean military might was demonstrated to the Colonies when it successfully invaded and captured Sagittaron in 37 BU. Sagittaron's occupation ended as a goodwill gesture before signing the Articles of Colonization. As a result of their actions, and strong military prowess, Picon became home to the Colonial Fleet Headquarters and required industries, that included a small FTL capable shipyard.

Sagittaron
Having endured centuries of hate and resentment from the other Colonies, Sagittaron was brutally fought over for centuries. But its greatest woe began when large Pirate settlements formed on its western continent who, unregulated by corrupt Sagittaron authorities, raided lucrative trade routes that ran nearby from Caprica to Picon. This threat, and the governments inability to stop it, enraged several other Colonies, and Picon reacted firmly by invading and occupying Sagittaron in order to rid the planet of its corrupt government and criminal network. This heavyhanded approach by the Pisceans created hate and resentment from the indigenous populace. Ever since freedom was restored, insurrectionists have continued to terrorize the government of Sagittaron, and of other Colonies, as an act to secede from the Articles of Colonization. One of the worst terrorist attacks occurred from Sagittaron terrorists who boarded the Cruise Ship Emerald of the Galaxy and as it made its way by Scorpion Fleet shipyards, detonated an eighteen megaton thermonuclear device that destroyed the ship, a battlestar, several military support ships, and damaged the shipyards itself. The loss of life was horrendous totaling nearly thirty thousand. Ever since this, small ranger teams have hunted terrorists down, and killed them and their families to stop the bloodshed.

Scorpia
The Scorpians are devoutly religious and consider themselves more pure than the Geminese which involves itself too much with commerce. The first settlement of Provenance saw the construction of the High Temple, and it served as the capital until 200 BU . To try and distance religion from its growing commercial activities, the Scorpians moved the capital city to Heraklion. Provenance has become a pilgrimage and has served the Colonies as a great shrine ever since. With many asteroids and natural resources, the Colonial Fleet decided to hide their largest shipyard to keep the fleet unobserved from prying eyes. However, the Emerald of the Galaxy incident caused a flight restriction of all civilian vessels operating 500 MSU from the shipyard.

Tauron
Tauron is located close to Gemenon, and the Armistice Line. Tauron has developed huge industrial complexes across its two main continents of Eurynome and Thetis. Tauron's industrial dominance is mainly due to its massive civilian shipyards which have produced masses of FTL capable civilian ships which established the earliest trading routes. Its industrial greed caused this planet to use a substantial number of Cylons as workers as compared to the other colonies. During the First Cylon War, Tauron was unfortunately a heavily fought over strategic battlefield. Many industrial cities like Hephaestion were occupied by the Cylons to produce ships, weapons, and more sinisterly... their own Cylon Army. In recent years, the shipyards have been built up yet again and now surpass Scorpion in their size. This shipyard is also where the massive inter-planetary cruise liners are built.

Virgon
Virgon was the last planet to be colonized and it depended on agronomy and light industry for its firstoff development as did most other colonies. Virgon's populace is spread across its numerous islands with its capital Devotion based on the largest and central continent, Kypris. For the more advanced Geminese economy the Virgonese were seen as an underdeveloped backwater investment opportunity, and many trading routes were developed between Colonies. Gemenon exploited its low labor costs but improved its industrial infrastructure, and Virgon eventually saw its economy become vibrant and successful. Tourism is another industry with the wealthy from other colonies purchasing land and residential areas along the beautiful coastlines of its tropical islands. Virgon is considered to be the most cosmopolitan of all the Colonies. It is also home the the Virgon Orbital Drydocks, were it is meant to only build and repair ships, as compared to Scorpion where they are mainly meant to provide minor repairs, and resupply ships.

They even posted this on Battlestarcentral Mercer. They think it's brilliant and I share their opinion.
