Anyone watching this 3-part TNT miniseries? It's about the CIA early in the Cold War.

Part 1 is set in Berlin in the early 50s and is about espionage and counter-espionage against the KGB. The first half of Part 1 is about the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. And the second half about the Bay of Pigs invasion.

And it's not just some cheap cable series. The production values are really awesome. Part 2 contains lots of street fighting with actual tanks and the invasion of Cuba is shown first hand, complete with ships and aircraft. That's a bit light on actual spy-stuff unfortunately, but great to watch. And it shows nicely what happens when you make half-baked promises of freedom and support to oppressed people and then fail them when it really counts.

Haven't seen it, but I'll make a note. Seems that conventional writing isn't as good without setting the story time and place either a few decades back, or placing the story in another universe, or setting it in present-day and adding a nuke threat and/or superheroes.
