Of course, everyone knows that the Cylons, probably motivated by a religious belief in their god, decided to evolve from pure robots to cyborgs in order to conquer the humans by becoming more human-like. The Centurions (foot soldiers), Raiders (fighter ships), and Baseships (warships) are all combinations of flesh and machine.

Finally, you got the humanoid Cylons, the ultimate merger of machine and organics. The Cylon humanoids reflect the artificial/mechanical/electronic aspects of their beings by being able to interface with computers and possessing A.I. (artificial intelligence) personalities (only 12 in all) that can be downloaded into new bodies after the original humanoid Cylons are killed. Yet, the same humanoid Cylons also reflect the flesh-and-blood, biological aspects of their beings by possessing internal organs and blood identical to those of true humans, having the same emotions as true humans, and even capable of biological reproduction by mating with humans.
I would classify humanoid Cylons as a combination of clones and cyborgs.
The children of Cylon-human unions are, in my opinion, likely to be classified as purely biological beings, and even as true humans.

There are a number of existing threads that would have accommodated this observation (e.g. empathy44's Maybe It's All About The Kids or Jeff O'Connor's Who do you really *not* want to be the Final Cylon?).

Why do new nuggets yield to the urge to start a new thread as soon as they join, before scoping out the forum and seeing what discussions exist, and joining in a bit. I can't believe that anyone would make their first post a new thread. If you're going to start a new thread we have a Nuggets Introductions subforum.

Sorry you've copped this Newmarduk, you're not the only one. If you were I wouldn't've been so bothered.

Welcome, by the way.

They're not frakking cloned.

I don't even want to get into the argument about how many of them or which bits of them are cloned and which are cyborged.

Sheesh.

My thery about how humanoid Cylons were developed..is that after researching (and failure, see the hibrids) they simply took the human DNA and base (body) and proceed to upgrade it (more strenght , speed, some radiations resistance, etc) and "cylonize" it inserting in bilogical components devices to allow them to perform certain task needed (to interface with optics , or interface with basestars with that water.. IFF, memory, programing, etc) .
resuming: I thing they simply "cloned" (not exactly cloned, they produced 12 models as we know acording to stereotypes) humans bodies wich were upgraded and modified with certain , the brain was modded, hidden systems, etc..
actually surelly colonials could allready do generic improment.. but surelly as hell it was forbiden due to moral reasons that also forbide it to genetically improve today, or in Star Trek universe (and many other sci-fi universes), but Cylons didnt had those moral reservations..
That makes Cylons more simply.. with adecuate tech you can create a human being from the genetic pool.. and create a "new" one manipulating genetic codes as you wish.. thats what i thing the Cylons did with some other alterations..
The reasons have been made clear by now in the show.. only remains to explain who programed them that way.. what happened between the final 5 and the other 6 and what happened between the new humanoid models and the old centurions that were scrapped (alltought some still remains .. surelly with that inhibitor)

Also i believe that colonials are not able to easy identify them due to limited medical/scientific labs.. i think that if they were in Caprica with acess to full colonial tech and resources they would easily and fast be able to identify someone as a Cylon or human.. but a BattleStar is a battlestar and its medican facilities are for medical porpouses and so are limited to certain functions..
