View Full Version : Adama backs "crazy" chip theory - official
timbo
June 17th, 2008, 04:24 AM
I return after nearly a week off the forum - lost my internet connection - to find that everyone is so focussed on the final scene, that they missed the most important piece of information from the episode. When Tigh confessed to him, Adamaīs first reaction was "they did something to you on New Caprica, put a chip in you or something. Letīs go see Doc Cottle." Unfortunately, they did not have time to do this because of the crisis situation. Tigh will see Cottle, and the chip will be discovered in the next few episodes, I am sure.
In the light of this "revelation", I ask you once more to consider this idea, bearing in mind that it now has the backing of the main man - Adama himself.

It's not that they didn't have time to do it, it's that Tigh refused because

Aaargh
EDIT: I'm going to put a bit of reasoning behind that strangled moan.
Adama was desperately looking for a way out. You can see, plainly, that Adama believes Tigh, but wants it to be otherwise, and fully accepts it after the "Bill, listen to me. I am a frakking Cylon" speech. Why else would he go berserk in his office again?
Although I'm glad to see the ship was spared this time.

timbo, you have a right to your theories, for sure, but really, why do you cling to this one so tenaciously? Tigh is final five, D'Anna saw him in her vision. The writers can do whatever they want, but they just aren't going to do the chip thing! And would you want them to anyway? That solution wouldn't satisfy me.

RDM confirmed Tigh to be a Cylon and one of the Final Five. If it weren't frakking obvious enough, Anders' eye is able to use Friend/Foe recognition with the Raiders. The four that were revealed ARE Cylons.

I found those two old posts about believing something when there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I am gonna paste them below, and them I promise I will shut up about Tigh until the show starts up again. One last word on the matter. I still think the scale is wrong. If the show is a whoīs a cylon mystery, then Tigh not being a cylon would not work. But, if the show is about why humanity should survive, or how to break the cycle of great civilisations destroying themselves, or the importance of love, or even the existence of God, as I believe, then Tigh not being a cylon fits the scale of the show.
Insight into delusional thinking no 1.
I had this vision of myself, sitting on one of those little milking stools with my face six inches from my TV screen. The credits are rolling at the end of the last ever episode, and my wife is saying "come on Timbo, give it up. Tigh is a cylon. Its time to let it go." I whisper, "no, no, they must be waiting until after the credits to spring the surprise. They are leaving it pretty late though, eh? With a mad grin, I turn to my wife, "I hope all my friends on the forum keep watching after the credits, or they are gonna miss it, ha ha." She then gently leads me by the arm, "cīmon, its time for your meds", and I shuffle through to my new bedroom, with its soothing colours and no sharp edges.
In sight into delusional thinking no 2.
Let me tell you a story......
Timbo is deep inside a long train tunnel, taking a short cut with a few of his friends. In the distance, two faint lights appear and one of Timboīs friends says "that might be a train". Timbo says "no, it is just two fireflies dancing in the warmth of the evening. The lights get brighter and are now accompanied by a low rumbling and another of the group says "Timbo, I think itīs a train, I think we should get out of the tunnel". Timbo, blind to his friends concern says" look the pretty fireflies are putting on a show for us". Timboīs friends turn and begin to run for safety, screaming now, Timbo, Timbo, itīs a freight train, run. Finally, Timbo is alone in the tunnel, his friends having long since fled to safety. The tunnel is now flooded with the light of a thousand suns and there is deafening roar rattling the tunnel to its very bones. Timbo, his eyes carrying a serene glaze, kneels and holds out a steady hand and says "come fragile fireflies, settle on my palm and dance just for me".

Thanks fellow forum dudes, it is nice to make an impression sometimes.
It is true, I do have a chip, and it is on the blink, and they did have problems fitting it. They had to staple it to a monkeyīs brain and pop that inside my head.

I know it looks that way, but itīs not that, I promise. I never really cared if he is or not. I like Tigh, but he is not really a favourite. I just canīt shake off the damn idea. In fact, apart from Tigh not being one, I dont think I have given more than one or two half hearted opinions on who the final five are. It has never seemed that important to me. The Tigh thing has just been a bit of fun. The reason I joined the forum was to talk about what the show has to say about the bigger questions - God, identity, love etc.
When a writer writes a novel, he finishes it and then offers it up to be read. When a writer or writers writes a series for TV, it seems that half way through writing, peoples reactions can and do affect the trajectory of the story. For me, from the beginning, the show was heading toward being something really special, but it has been hijacked to an extent by the final cylon hysteria. I dont know if this was intended or came as a surprise to the powers that be. Either way, it worries me a little that some of the original ideas may have been sacrificed to milk this FF stuff. I hope I am wrong.

F**k that. Who's the Final Cylon?

No I think the Final Cylon thing is important to the Writers, because it's mostly swamping discussion about the important themes of the show and the way the story will end, which I think is a good thing (Roslin's italics). Season 4.5 will blow us away because we've been so focussed on the Final Cylon that when that turns out be, say, the twelfth most amazing thing that happens we'll all just be stunned. Even the identity of the Final Cylon (which is what everyone's banging on about) per se is of much less importance than his or her purpose. I think they were right not to reveal the identity before the midseason break because that discussion needs to deflect attention from what they're going to do with or to everyone else.

Actually, I do not think that the would sacrifice any of the original ideas for the FF stuff. I totally believe that the FF stuff is a diversion. That there is more to this story than any of us know. At the end of the show, We will not even care who the FF are. However, that said I am having fun right now talking about the FF especially after D'Anna remarks . However, That enthusiasm will not last unless the give us more to think about before 4.5 begins.

I think the identity of the fifth is wrapped up with all the big questions in the show, and that is why it's important. That's also why I don't think the fifth is a lesser character like Seelix or even Dualla. I think it has to be one of the biggies. Having it be Boomer would be huge, which is the reason I'm not discounting the theory completely, although I think it has big holes.
Timbo, I know I feel a tad suicidal when I contemplate how long we have to wait to see the rest of the show, but please, don't go into the light. ;)

Yeah, that is what I hope, and it is reassuring that a few people have said that in spite of the FF frenzy, they still expect the real revelations to come after we know who the last one is. It is quite a new experience when I stop and realise that I actually care about what happens in a TV show. I do think though that we need some good fresh angles on the forum.

Hmmm... maybe. What we don't want is for everyone to have sussed out or guessed all the surprises and spoil the second half for everyone else. The Final Cylon's there if you want to join in. If not, don't. I'm going to keep it spinning for a while if I can. Until I get bored at least. Which may be very soon. I'm worried about what the mid season break will do to the forum. I wasn't around during the last one.

I'm big on the idea that the Final Four are "different" and I wonder--not if there was a chip implanted--if they are humans overwritten with another personality or a set of imperatives. After all, these are Cylons that age!
The ability to beam consciousness is central to the Cylon experience.
Each of the four heard music as if it was being beamed to them. Tigh thought it was coming from the ship and I think it was--as a waylay station.
The Final Five exist in a place between life and death for the Cylons is an important clue. Going to the Temple of the Five results in the ability to see and identify them--because their identity is revealed as a vision.
Head Baltar/Six have a lot of info that shows they are not just projections of their human/Cylon host. It's as if they are manifestations beamed into the host's head.

I don't like the chip idea thing. Tigh as a cylon is far better than Tigh with a crazy chip. Although it'd be superbly ace if Tori wasn't a cylon as it'd properly scupper the egotistical cow. Still she has to be a cylon though, as she was able to knock Cally clean out with a backhanded slap. Not bad for a pencil pusher.
I love the internal conflict of Tigh. He's shown himself to be the best human and the best cylon and compared to fatboy Tyrol, Kara's cuckold of a husband and Tori he's the best of the final five and will continue to be unless the fifth cylon happens to be Tigh Mk 2.
I hope Caprica is just about Tigh as a cylon toddler going round punching out the other kids whilst getting into Red Hand Gang style scrapes (and drinking whiskey).

To answer your question, dont ask me, ask Adama, he is now the official spokesperson for the idea.
Also, why would you hate ppl not believing something?
Plus, whatīs the difference between putting a hidden microphone on the bridge of Galactica, and putting a chip in someoneīs head. It is exactly the sort of thing I would expect the cylons to do. Technology is their thing. To me, it doesnt fit that they are cylons.
Anyway, I promised to shut up, so I will.
