Was wondering this after watching the hub and razor. The centurions in razor are able to communicate verbally and think freely but yet the centurion that Baltar was talking to made my cat look like Einstein. Did the inhibitors limit metal capacity as well as free thought? If so than why do they still seem like tardy turtle. Or are they just playing dumb now. Also why did they even need the inhibitors as they were created presumably after the humanoid cylons so why couldn't they be programed from the beginning to be slaves since the older models were scrapped.

in razor those are model 005 centurions, i.e. a model developed and used by the cylons during the 1st cylon war. from the miniseries forward we have the "standard" [no known model number] centurions. frankly, there is VERY little canonical about this model. they could have been developed 5 years ago, they could have been developed 45 years ago. they could preceded the final five, they could have shown up long after the f5 left and the s7 was "told" never to think of them. it wil be interesting to see what/if we learn about the centurions over the last 1/2 season, since, frankly, 90%+ of the focus has been on the 12 humanoid models and not them, nor the raiders, nor the baseship hybrids for that matter ...

Yes...
when Baltar began to talk to that centurion about God... i was somehow especting that it would be an awesome beat to have the Centurion then ask in the metallic voice : "God?"

For sure that would have gave the episode a bit more substance than the tear fest that it was (30 second space battle aside:))

Centurion intelligence does seem to be inhibited to some degree. Perhaps, as sentient beings, they're on the same level as Raiders intellectually. I'm thinking of the one that shot the Eight - it seemed to act out of simplistic protectiveness towards the Hybrid more than anything else.
Of course they can't talk so we can't know for sure.

My guess is that the centurion Baltar was talking to was playing dumb. Think about it, it's a great way to ignore Baltar's blather.
