Hey guys sorry to impose but I was wondering if you could help me find a book. Unfortunately all I can remember is the basic plot :p. I've spent a couple hours searching Amazon and Google books to no avail

It had man made black holes powering space ships, aliens who could create and annihilate matter entirely with their minds(ignoring E=mc^2) and mankind leaving earth for good because its an ecological ruin.

I remember some more details but don't want to ruin it if you ever do read the book :p.

Earth is running low on resources.
-The main character (female) flys around in a fancy glider conserving fuel and looking for signs of more fossil fuels.
Scientists create a black hole in a nearby solar system to calibrate their new black hole spaceship drive. (Main character becomes pilot for first of the new ships)
Turns out that solar system was inhabited by a bunch of aliens that can create and destroy matter with their minds and are telepathic... This race spans the galaxy and after one of their planets is destroyed they get pissed and do their best to hunt down and kill humans.
Interestingly the aliens can't travel between planets and other then their shared hatred of humans don't/can't communicate between planets. (I forget the why of this)
Humans can't fight the aliens uber mental powers and spend their time sneaking onto planets to grab some resources and then hide.
Eventually they form a big space station (mashed together from spaceships) on the edge of the galaxy thinking
"the aliens will never look here."
Turns out the aliens find it easier to create matter then destroy it and their worlds inevitably crash into their suns preventing them from evolving too far.
At the end the humans create a shield that repels the aliens mental powers back on the aliens and the aliens kill themselves trying to batter past the shield.

The book alternates back and forth between human and alien perspectives.

Have you checked with your local library? The reference librarians are a great resource for something like that. If they don't have the answer then you should try the Internet Public Library at http://www.ipl.org. You can ask the question there, provide them with the information you shared here, and either a librarian or a library school graduate student will do the leg work and try to find the answer for you.

I've used both setups and they're all helpful. Also, if you live in Massachusetts there is another FREE (yes your library and IPL are also FREE) service called MassAnswers at http://www.massanswers.org/, which is 24/7 where a real, live, reference librarian talks to you live via IM and tries to answer your question.

I'm checking with the regional reference provider for eastern Mass to see if they know. Being a librarian I've made some connections and hopefully I'll have an answer for you. In the meantime I suggest that you try the above sources. Maybe you'll get your answer quicker from that than from me.

I've done checking on this for you with the regional reference provider for eastern Massachusetts. So far there's been no luck. However, the information you provided has been shared, and will be shared again, on the science fiction listservs used by all public libraries in the country.

Hopefully something will appear.
