Curious to know what peopls opinions are on the number of guest stars on the show as we approach the end. I am very happy that in order to gain more viewers they didn't try more guest appearances by people from outside the Sci-FI realm. I am also happy that we didn't get a one a season pop up of someone from the orginal series. What does everyone else think.

I'm a bit bemused by the fact that some of the major (or at least significant) recurring characters are guest stars. What if they decided not to come back? I understand that they're not contractually obliged to.

I was happy to see Dana Delany; but then I have a crush on her, for some unknown reason.

Guest stars are always a cool thing, kind of like a giant in-joke (but not necessarily negatively). They're a fun thing to do, and it's always nice to see a familiar face. The only down side is that they have a tendency to be type-cast, which, of course, is not always true.

Actually, they are contractually obliged to... at least the recurring guest characters like Tigh, Tyrol, Anders, and the others. They're basically part of the main cast, but are not credited as such.

They all had to sign agreements that they would be available to BSG... Paul Campbell, the guy who played Billy, didn't sign one, and so they had to kill him off because they couldn't invest any story time into a guy who was basically a free agent.

Ahh, I see. Thanks.

In that case, I'm surprised they kept Billy around as long as they did.

As the series ends, I appreciate the guest stars, guest directors, guest whatever. Bringing in Ro Laren to play Admiral Cain was amazing. Badger to play Romo Lampkin?!?! Kira Nerys for a single episode itself was great. I was hoping Kevin Smith would still be available to direct, but what ever. Either way, I enjoy it, appreciate it, and love it.

Something I really like about Battlestar Galactica is that I never recognize the guest stars which makes me focus only on their character.

I remember first time watching Final cut and it said "Special guest star Lucy Lawless". I looked carefully throughout the entire episode before realizing long after that she was the blonde reporter. I had only seen her Xena before and she sure looked different.
