As far as youtube crashing your computer, if it's XP, I'd do the following:
1)Reinstall/Update DirectX:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
2)Download ZoomPlayer
http://www.zptechnology.com/download/zp502wmv.exe
When you install, make sure to run the "install center", and install every option.
3)Uninstall/Reinstall (or just install) Firefox web browser (you may have to later install plugin for macromedia/adobe flash ---just click ok if you see the program ask)
4)Download VLC Player
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
On install, make sure "plugins for firefox", etc. are checked.
These steps should be are a general fix for most codec/plugin probs....
