Hi, there. It was a little hard to understand your question, but I'll try to answer.
Galactica 1980 wasn't (officially) avaiiable on VHS or DVD until very recently in the United States (last December). You may be able to obtain it in Japan if they have made it for your DVD region. There are also the unofficial "bootlegs" (I don't recommend these, they are poor in quality) Be warned: the show does not have any subtitles or language translations.
The Sci Fi Channel website and other websites have also hosted the complete 10 episodes online, which might save you time and money. Just search for them with Google or other search engine.
The short lived show tells the story of the original series Galactica some 30 years later. The child, Boxey, grows up to become a Colonial pilot called Troy, in the steps of his adoptive father, Apollo (who is dead). More can be found in this Battlestar Wiki article on Galactica 1980.

I started watching battlestar 1980...and i got embarressed just watching it, it is terrible!!
The plot is awful, and how come in the last episode of the 1979 version they find the solor system with 9 planets, then they only just find earth, 30 years later? were they just trying to ruin the final episodes of the original series? Apollo dies aswell? Stupid idea, and having the intellegent kids...stupid.
When they go to earth and drive around on some space bikes, you will cringe!!
For me it ruined the original battlestar series, it was that bad, and i hope the re-imagined makes up for the original series (1978-79) being canceled and not completing the story, and also makes up for the story ruining Battlestar Galactica 1980.
Oh and buying the DVDs would be a serious waste of money!

jmo, but even if [for some unfathomable reason] rdm drives into the ditch in the last few episodes, he's already taken the franchise way, way beyond anything the first 2 iterations could ever have done ...

You should watch "The Return of Starbuck." It is the best episode of the series and one of the best BG episodes ever. It's very well done, Dirk Benedict is great in it. This is how the writing of G80 should have gone.

ROS is pretty good. Who says RDM is screwing around with the story to make human and cylon work together?

I know I watched the BSG 1980 when it first aired and to be honest forgot about it almost entirely.....
Then I watched the Original Series on DVD and noticed one episode was missing....
Then I watched BSG 1980 and found the missing episode.....
I think we all know which episode that was.

I've just spent the best part of my weekend watching BSG80 on DVD as I had never seen it before, and I beleive that it never actually aired in the UK.
It actually wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be, though I cant actually figure out why they are in 1980, when in the 'hand of god' final TOS episode which is apparently set 30 or so years before the events in BSG80, we see footage of man on the moon which happened 11 years earlier?? I really liked the return of starbuck episode...

I do remember a showing of 'Galactica Discovers Earth' as a tv movie around 1984 (during the mid session interval of the Embassy World Snooker final on the bank holiday monday (!!)) . It was hacked to bits with no time travel, but it, if memory serves, was spliced together with 'the day that the Cylons came' episodes. An abridged version of BSG80 if you will.

Zod, the movie you saw was the "Conquest of Earth", which combined elements from both GDE and "The Day The Cylons Landed".
