The Doctor and Mrs Who (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/drandmrswho) blogtalk radio show tonight is citing an inside source claiming that Battlestar Galactica has finalized a three picture movie deal (presumably with Universal Media Studios again). The movies will be direct to DVD productions with a shortened broadcast premiere prior to release exactly like Razor.
Recently the good Doctor scored early breaking news with details of Sci Fi's Caprica pilot. So this rumor looks promising.
Recap at show's end in about 40 minutes. The show should be archived, ready for download or streaming after 11:30EDT.

I like this news/rumor. Back when they announced season 4 was the last, I thought it would be cool if they did a 2 part mini-series after season 4 to bring everything to an end.
If this is true, I welcome it.

Awesome news!
I'd expect it be quite different from the series. It may take overlap a bit, but if they do a batman like retake then all good! I'd figure they leave the story open at the end a bit to do something to carry it on. Hopefully, they don't do a Matrix like play just to pump out new stories.

On the recap, the Doctor said movie production begins immediately after season four completes principal photography, currently scheduled to end in late June. The first Battlestar movie might have a broadcast premiere around Christmas time (same as Razor last year) should the last half of season four not resume until January 2009. So likely, at least one of the movies would not further season four continuity but be another Razor like story expanding on earlier events.
And there was a purported inside source spoiler about two characters who are not the final Cylon. I am not touching that, have a listen yourself.

Maureen Ryan talks to her many sources about the rumored BSG DTV movies. Not quite the done deal that the Doctor described, but any network is customarily noncommittal until after the fact with a press release.
Chicago Tribune: More 'Battlestar Galactica' TV movies to come? (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/05/more-battlestar.html)
and...
"By the way, at this point, it’s not known when those last 10 episodes of "Battlestar" will air. Informed sources say that a decision on that won’t get made until mid-summer, so my guess is that Sci Fi won’t the final 10 episodes until 2009."

Good news. If true, I just hope one of those movies is broadcasted between both S4 halves.
When season three ended last year i thought I could not stand until April 2008... but i did :D (Razor helped a lot)

They would have to put those movies in between the Season 4 break. Any idea if they 2nd half of season 4 will end before Christmas??

I think Katie mentioned a January 2009 continuance, but it was jokingly said... where was that some time ago...

The Doctor and Mrs Who (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/drandmrswho) are back tonight, sans Mrs Who. Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan joined the show for the Battlestar segment. Both recapped and emphasized last week's news and indulged in informed speculation about speculation from their inside sources. :)
Sci Fi will make an official announcement about the Battlestar Galactica DTV movies after the mid-season finale in June. Production for the first of the three movies begins in July. Lots of hand wringing about which of the cast members will be available for the movies. Speculation that the first Battlestar movie will premiere on Sci Fi in December... just like Razor did last December.
Speculation from Maureen and the Doctor about a Caprica episode order from Sci Fi. Maureen says negotiations are to begin after the pilot. The Doctor says talks begin very soon before the pilot is even filmed, due to the large investment in assembling the pilot's relatively expensive cast.
Caprica could possibly get a short season order and premiere as a series alongside the return of Battlestar's remaining ten season episodes in 2009.
The Doctor says he knows who the final Cylon is and eliminates three major characters from the lineup. Characters who most fans have already eliminated. Otherwise no other hints, so the cast is spoiler safe to listen to.
BSG segments at the beginning and end of the 90 minute show. Nice to hear Maureen Ryan after reading her column. Streaming and download available soon.

So who precisely did the Doctor say weren't the Final Cylon amongst the "three major characters"?
I don't have the will to listen through the show, since... I can't listen to them for the sake of my eardrums. (No offense to the Dr. and Mrs. Who, who are great people I'm sure, but some people just... shouldn't... do talk radio. In much the same way that William Shatner shouldn't sing.)

I believe that this is the three characters that he said.
I believe Dr Who said Admiral Adama, Lee, and Dr Cottle. Plus he also hinted that it could be a minor character.

Cottle's a "major character"? By what defintion? The Old Man makes sense, since EJO has a "no Cylon" clause in his contract... Lee might make sense. I'd be happy as so long as the Cylon isn't a pathetic character like Dee. I can handle the Gaeta man being a Cylon.

I agree Dr Cottle is not a main character. That is why I did not put main when I said the three characters. There have been a lot of hints for Dee, However, if they do not include her in any story lines soon, I starting to wish that it would be someone else.

"Major" was my choice of adjective, didn't mean to add spin.
I do hope Sci Fi and the productions are able to accomplish what it looks like they want to have happen. A Caprica pilot this fall, webisodes, a winter BSG movie and shortly thereafter a 2009 return of BSG. I seriously doubt the networks wants to be empty handed come time for sweeps in March/April. Maybe not so shortly.

You did not add spin to it. I listened too and the Doctor said three major characters. Everything is cool. :)

I haven't read this entire thread, but does it ever worry anyone else that RDM may end this show like the Sopranos?!?!?!?!
This is what really scares me: http://blogs.scifi.com/battlestar/2007/06/the-sopranos-ends-perfectly.php

Yeah...Speaking as a writer, an ending like that is spectacular and interesting from a writer's standpoint. However, it's also likely to annoy the heck out of the audience. I'm not sure that sort of ending would be appropriate. I do think there should be some sort of conclusion to the main problem of a story, though I agree that not absolutely everything should be laid out and revealed, since you do have to give fans something to debate over afterwards. Mystery is good. Pissing off the audience, good to a degree. Making the audience want to actually kill you over a fictional story should probably be avoided within reason.
